Insanity Diet by Beachbody

 Summary:

This is a summary of the information provided by Beachbody about the Insanity diet. It was designed to fuel your body properly during the Insanity fitness program. In general, here are the rules:
- 5 meals a day ranging from 300 - 500 calories. Think of your body like a campfire; the more regularly you add fuel, the more your fire will burn, and the longer it will burn.
- 40% carbohydrates, 40% protein, 20% fat
- Calculate your RDI on Beachbody's website, reduce by 500 cal/day to lose weight, increase by 500 cal/day to gain weight
- Drink LOTS of water, sweeten coffee and tea with stevia, and limit or cut out alcohol, soda, and other empty calorie beverages
- Emphasis on whole grains, vegetables and meats
- Shakeology is recommended. It seems expensive, but it comes out to be a little over $4 a day with great health and weight loss benefits.
- Most importantly, DIG DEEPER. Do the workout, stretch, take a recovery drink, sleep, and push yourself harder than you've ever gone before!

HokieDoke's top tips

1.Try to get as much protein in your system as you can, without skimping on carbs. Really, as long as what you put in your body is good fuel and you push yourself to the limit in your exercise, you should feel great!
2.Don't deprive yourself. This diet is based on the fact that you will be performing workouts ranging from 500 - 1000 calories burned a day. If you are craving a piece of peanut buttered wheat toast, you probably need it! Just make sure you are filling your cravings with something good!
3.Do the workout. It is going to be hard, but you don't get to look like Shaun T sitting on your fanny. Whether you have 10 lbs to lose, 150 lbs to lose, or 10 lbs to gain, if you put in the effort, you'll get results!
4.Get a recovery drink. BCAAs are branch chain amino acids, and they're basically proteins that increase circulation and help your muscles recover (they actually make your skin tingle, so you know it's working!). Make sure your local GNC hooks you up with a recovery drink that has them in it, or get a separate supplement on top of it. It may be expensive, but, trust me, you will probably want to quit if you don't help your body recover from these grueling workouts.
5.Make sure your form is good and that you do extra stretching. If possible, have a friend watch your form and make sure it matches what they have on the screen. Also, Shaun T tends to skimp on the stretching, so make sure you stretch ALL of your legs AND arms/shoulders/back/neck after working out!
6.If you're feeling down, don't lose faith. There are tons of youtube videos with Insanity success stories. Watch a couple, and don't forget that in 60 days, that will be YOU!

About / History

Insanity is a workout regimen developed by Beachbody similar to P90X in that it claims to improve fitness in 60 days through strenuous stamina training. Developed by Shaun T. in 2009, Insanity's advertising emphasizes "max interval training", a method of exercising during which one works out strenuously for 3–4 minutes and then rests or "cools down" for approximately 30 seconds before starting the whole process over again. This is more intense than traditional interval training, during which participants alternate mild and strenuous exercise for roughly equal lengths of time. This program claims to promote noticeable results through core strength, as well as intense cardio training.
