You don’t enjoy rules and routine which causes you to rebel and disrupt a healthy eating plan.  How To Follow WeighLess:

Weigh-Less was founded with the intention of providing a live-able, do-able and affordable eating plan based on sound nutritional principles. This ensures that you lose weight the healthy sustainable way. We provide an environment where you can come feel secure and supported on your journey to goal weight. Our Groups are led by former overweight people who will empathise with you and will support you as an individual and as part of a group. This is the foundation that Weigh-Less is built on – the Weigh-Less trilogy – the Group Leader, The weight management programme and you!

The Group Leader is a mentor – someone who conveys wisdom from their past experiences and guides you, the member, to make the best decisions for your healthy weight and lifestyle. The Group Leader leads by example and shows you how you too can manage yourself and therefore manage your lifestyle. He or she will act as your friend and your confidant – someone you can share the mental obstacles on your journey with, and together you will find a way to overcome all obstructions (whether physical or emotional) so that you can take your final step to goal weight success.Your group leader is there to help and support you along your journey with us, please ensure that you have your group leaders contact details, should you need support, encouragement, etc in between your group meetings.

The credibility of the Weigh-Less brand is such that everything compiled in food lists, menu plans and all material given is done under strict dietary guidelines and principles. Please remember that these are only guidelines and due to lifestyle challenges, we cannot always be 100% compliant, but we can be 90%, 80% or even 60% compliant. No one is ever a 0% compliant. There are however some instances where the weight management programme needs a 100 percent compliance in order to lay the foundation of healthy eating. One of these instances is the weighing of your food portions. Weighing of food portions forms a part of portion control and plays a very important role at the beginning of the plan. Every member needs to be 100% accurate when weighing their food and follow the step rules given for maximum weight loss.

Weigh-Less has always placed the member as the most important person in the organisation. The Weigh-Less Trilogy reinforces this by placing the member in the middle, forming the driving force behind the Weigh-Less Steps to Success. The in-Group activities, the type of message the Group Leader gives, as well as which intervention the member follows are all driven by the member’s needs.

The importance of monthly weigh-ins cannot be over-emphasised – they help you keep a check on your weight, allow your Group Leader to intervene before it is too late, give you the opportunity to share your success story (a wonderful motivating tool for other members), and serve as a useful reminder to you about the road you have travelled and overcome.

About / History

Weigh-Less – still changing the shape of the nation
Many a great organisation has started from humble beginnings, and Weigh-Less is no exception. Founded by Mary Holroyd in 1975, with just a bathroom scale and R10 to pay for printing and advertising, Weigh-Less’ growth and success in changing people’s lives for the better has shown that dreams do come true if we pursue them!

Modest beginnings
Who was to know that that first meeting in Mary’s home on 25 February 1975 would quickly spark off 13 Groups in the area, all led by Mary herself? In 1976, the first training programmes began with Rosemary Enstrom, the first member of Weigh-Less, becoming the first Weigh-Less Group Leader in South Africa. In 1978, Weigh-Less held their first Slimmer of the Year competition in the ballroom at the Athlone Hotel in Durban, and Weigh-Less also brought out their first cookbook.

The Weigh-Less food endorsement division has been in operation since 1978. With the variety of foods manufactured by leading South African manufacturers as well as the Weigh-Less Green Band products, it’s no wonder Weigh-Less holds the dominant position in the health and weight management sector of the food and beverage market – giving consumers a range of line items that have been specially formulated to help them make that healthy choice.

Reaching for the sky – and touching it
From here on Weigh-Less grew from strength to strength, to be where it is today, a proudly South African organisation, which is also represented in the UK and other nearby countries like Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Swaziland.

Weigh-Less also provides employment to more than 1 300 field staff members hosting more than 2 900 Groups on a weekly basis in South Africa. Over 47 000 members visit these Groups regularly to receive the motivation and support that would help them through their journey to obtain and maintain their goal weight.

Mary has, through her passion and commitment to changing people’s lives, developed a health and weight management company that provides a holistic eating and health programme to members. The group has strategic alliances to the prudent dietary guidelines of the Association of Dietetics in South Africa, and is endorsed by the Heart Foundation.
