Hi, joined this challenge, but I don't know why it is important to avoid diet carbonated drinks. I drink at least two diet cokes a day. ruth

To simplify the biology of it: Diet Carbonated drinks might not have calories but they clog up your digestive system making it less efficient. This means your body is not good at absorbing the nutrients in the better foods and drinks you consume. Also, aspartame is a sweetner that your body can not digest; it is not good to be in the habit of ingesting foods that your body has no idea how to process. In a way it's like eating dirt or rock, or swallowing gum. It doesn't sound too healthy to be swallowing 2 to 3 packets of gum everyday, right?

If you dig deeper, you'll find that carbonated and sweet drinks are bad for your teeth and quantity dependent on your bones.

From what I have found, it is better to limit yourself to 1 coke a day than it is to drink a few Diet coke.

I think a lot of it has to do with the artificial sweetener. It makes you crave more sweet things from what I've read. I have cut out diet soda for the last few years, and it was hard at first, but your body will feel so much better. My husband and I went to a Super bowl party last Sunday and I had a sip of Diet Pepsi because I was DYING of thirst. I instantly got the worst cramps and stomach ache. Never again!

I have a friend who's a personal trainer and her reason for not drinking "diet" sodas was that the artificial sweetener (aspartame) converts into formaldehyde. I didn't confirm it. Just figured she knew what she was talking about.
