About this Challenge:

Did you ever think that being overweight may actually be a blessing? Have you ever contemplated that your excess weight may signify more than just a state of overeating? The fact that being overweight is actually a luxury not everyone can afford?

Here we are on Fatsecret all dying to stop eating when there are people on this planet dying to eat. There are millions of starving people around the globe trying to feign off starvation and poverty, all with the common goal of trying to live, trying to keep their families alive.

The fact that we can afford to overeat is a startling thought when we think about those who cant afford to even eat at all. I want all participants to think about those poor hungry people, everytime they think of snacking on that bag of chips. Think of undernourished children around the world whenever they want that Big Mac from McDonalds. This challenge is to ease your conscience from overeating and the satisfaction that your self restraint is actually helping others more needy than you.

The guidelines are simple.

1. Every time you want to sneak in a bag of chip, cookies, or fast food, calculate how much the food item costs and put the money aside instead. At the end of the day or week, just record here how much money you have saved and what it was in lieu of. That is more for you to see how much you have avoided than for others.

2. If you decide to eat the food anyway, you have to contribute twice the cost.

3. If you only want a portion of something (e.g. a handful of chips, or only 3 cookies instead of the whole packet), place your own value on the food. Remember all this is for charity, so estimate generously!

4. At the end of the month, tally the total you have managed to save in money and donate to the charity of your choice. Personally, I think finding a charity that helps the hungry is an ideal complement to this challenge as we are avoiding the luxuries that they cannot afford.
