I have been doing 5Ks but recently entered my first 10K! So I'm psyched about using this challenge to help me prepare for it! Good luck to all! I gladly accept new Atkins buddies!

Just curious, we are about the same weight... Did you run, jog or walk the 5K's you have completed? My first will be this Saturday and I plan to power walk/jogg it.

I do run the whole way, but I definitely didn't start out that way!! I alternated running and walking for months before I could run it all in one piece. My very first run a couple years ago I ran for five minutes and thought I would DIE! I weighed 189 then and it was so awful. But I have a girlfriend who is a trainer and she pushed me until suddenly I LOVED it. On my first 5K race it was 19 degrees at start time...my friend ran beside me the whole way, she's the best! Good luck to you on your first 5K, it's a beautiful thing!! I gladly accept new Atkins buddies!

Agree with Lisa Kay on it. It takes time and practice to get to where you can run the whole thing. I usually do about 1 a week now (the sign up register kind) and usually I will do a couple shorter 5-8 miles runs and a longer 8-15 mile run weekly. You will find with time you learn to love it, but I started just walking about 1 mile a day and built up from there. Give it time and you'll enjoy it, just remember, your not competing against anyone but yourself. That is what has got me through a lot of runs. I totally agree. I started walking/jogging in the mornings 4 weeks ago. I do it 5 day a week and do 2.5 -3 miles per day. I have learned to love this ME time, I’m taking advantage of the weather at 6:00 am hit the pavement.
A close friend has been running 5k’s for a couple of months and has invited me to a few and I would never dare to do it. But I decided that I was not in a competition and I really would feel proud of myself if I did one… So my date is in two day!
Thank you so much! This group will definitely help me compare my endurance 12 weeks from now. I’m so exited!

Hope the 5K went well!! Someone who is busier than you is working out right now. There will come a day when you can no longer do this. Today is not that day.

Yesvic 42 minutes is awesome!!! Congrats on finishing!!! Good luck on getting a faster time by the end, but even if you don't, remember that you finished a race you can be proud because you made it all the way from start to finish!!!!!
