Welcome everyone to the 12 Week Walk Program. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask me anything and I will try to help. My intention for posting this walk challenge is to find few good beginners who would like to join me on this journey on living a more active lifestyle. I just started my diet last week and have been on track with my eating habits. Now, I need to work on my exercise habits (my goal for the up coming week). I glad that I have already recruited a few new members for the challenge. I can’t wait to get started next week.

Hi Jessie, I'm very excited to join this challenge !! Like you, have recently started a new diet and am also looking to be more active. I'm a pretty sedentary person overall, so anything that will motivate me to get up and get moving is awesome ! I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone's successes and struggles as well. Much luck to all !

I also have become pretty sedentary and have been trying to get back to being motivated. I woke up this morning and saw this in my email and thought it was a really creative way to get my mental strength back and get back into working out. Thanks and it was a great idea I will be joining you in the challenge. I'm going to lose it... in a good way

I am a very slow walker do to my ongoing health issues, but...I am determined for the first time to do something about my aches and pains and walking is the first and easiest way for me to do it. I have taken up your challenge and I walked the 12 min. today. So thank you for setting up this program. My question is do I do the same 12 min walk every day? As I do not have any other exercise program. Or do you have another suggestion? Thank you Lynda

Lynda, you can continue to do the 12 minutes a day it surely won't hurt. There is a section with mini challenges... and every exercise continues to walk for a little longer. Glad to hear you are doing something to get better. My walk was awesome tonight! Uploading a picture of my walking buddy. I'm going to lose it... in a good way

I did walk again tonight. Just the 12 min. I will not push myself and "walk away" from the program.LOL. I feel good. Though my back is sore. My husband will monitor with me to see when I am ready to go up to the next stage. i.e. the 15 min of moderate ect.. I like taking the timer. It gives me something to do, I can pause in my walking, and then continue. It gives me a purpose and a routine. This for me is about losing weight, and getting my joints healthy. I have goals. Like hiking and biking. Lynda

Lynda,
It's great that you are working on becoming more active by walking. But just as bigB240 said, I would suggest that you continue to walk for the 12 minutes until you are ready to progress to the next session. Don't take on too much at a time. You should also incorporate a few rest days in between the walking days, especially since your back is hurting. Rest for one day and then do the 12 minute walk again and see how you feel after that. I don't want you "walking away" from the program either. If you wanted to do something other than walking on the other days, I do exercise DVDs for beginners. Just remember that this the the first week of the challenge and that this challenge is for beginners, take it slow and do what you can.

Thank you Jessie. I know if I stop on one day, just from past behavior I might stop altogether. So I will not walk today, and I will wait until after supper and walk with my husband.Do you have a suggestion for a DVD, I look at them at the Library and I am not sure what is "good". I do what I can, when I can, at the pace I can.

Lynda, I have so many exercise DVDs. I have ones on step aerobics, pilates, kick boxing, walking, zone strenght training, and cardio. The one that I like best is called Zone Pilates. I ordered it online a long time ago. I also just purchased one of Julian Michaels begginners exercise DVDs, but I haven't tried it out yet. I forgot what the title of it was. But you can also get a lot of exercise videos off of YouTube.com. Maybe you can try to look up some videos on that and find out what you like before you purchase any DVDs. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I have been having a lot of troubles this week. How is your walking going?
