Got into a little facebook sparring this morning with someone who was slamming Atkins...they kept calling it 'No Carb' and cited an article that claimed 'high protein' diets caused heart problems, then proclaimed veggies and lean meats were the way to go (uh, that's low carb). I could argue all day about my love of low-carb, but all I really know is it WORKS and I am in the best shape of my whole LIFE! My doctor is constantly surprised by my lack of health issues altogether!

I'm not a big fan of Atkins myself, but I do endorse "Whatever works for you!" lol. I did Atkins back in the popular days, when Burger King sold bun-less whoppers, and there was a whole craze going on. It was quite nice. I got a crust-less pizza in California even, and it was good. Pizza as you would imagine cooked on a plate type thing that you obviously did not eat. I lost 25 lbs but ended up with energy issues and gave it up.

Lisa Kay, my sister is a fitness nut-personal trainer and sells Advocare suppliments. She hates that I'm on Atkins and used to harp on me until I proved how well I was losing weight and that my blood pressure and blood sugar levels were coming down. Honestly, I gained weight on her Advocare 24 day challenge. Just didn't work for me. This does. She also was under the influence of the bad publicity Atkins has-all meat, no nutrience, all fat, blah blah blah. I educated her on 50-75% carbs to come from veg., etc. Her last arguement to me was to drink lots of water to flush the ketones from your kidneys to prevent possible damage (I researched this one and found it to be the one Atkins Achilles heel). She's still not happy but that's only because I'm right! :)

rksoup that story was perfectly timed for me! My BFF sells Advocare and she begged me to do the 24-day challenge--she is on day 7 right now! I was reluctant, afraid it would mess me up, and I backed out of doing it with her! We have talked a lot about Atkins (she is a personal trainer, too) and we have come to a truce about it, since she sees it working on me...so our friendship survives lol...Thanks for sharing that! posterchild--yes, 'whatever works for you' is my credo, too lol!
