schmetterling34's Journal, 20 June 2012

I am quite chuffed with myself. Went out for another run last night, another 8.6km (just over 5miles), only walked about 200m of it, up the last hill & even managed to knock over 1 minute of my best time.
it was really nice weather, sun shining for once & not too windy :), there were lots of people around, all asking the same question: which way to Stonehenge? I did point them in the right direction....just a slightly longer, but more scenic route ;)
This time of year my little town & the surounding countryside always gets invaded by about 40000 strangers, all wanting to dance around some ancient stones, welcoming the sun (which rarely comes out behind the clouds on this particular morning (21st June). LOL
i really would like to do another half marathon. I did my 1 & only 1 in may 2010. I did it, but i was ill afterwards for 3 days. Not a pleasant experience, but i ran with a friend whos pace was slightly faster than mine & would not let me stop at all.
so next time i will do it by myself, for myself!!!
i might have to compose a list of all the things i would like to do before my big 50.

Great job on the running. Those running buddies really provide the checks & balances system weneed - huh! I would love to see Stonhenge someday! But the picture I have in my head might be superior to the real thing. I teach the British poets - Shakespeare, Keats, Byron, Shelley. You get the picture. I also cover the Legend of Arthur. So traveling to the UK is something I dream about. Maybe someday. Have a great day! Cool journal today -- by the way!

Awesome work on the run. When I started my journey two months ago, I went 20 minutes on the treadmill before I quit. Now I can go an hour and still have some energy left in the tank. Sometimes I run for about a minute, but I am looking to increase that... and I found yesterday that I kept boosting my pace and incline, while before I had kept pushing it down to be able to continue. Here's to getting stronger!!

Excellent run. I would think that a half marathon would be a much better experience if you can set your own pace. When I find myself pushing too hard to improve my time I feel it for a long time afterwards. It seems you do the work and the waiting in equal measure one way or the other: you either take it at a comfortable rate and increase comfortably or you force it sooner than you are ready and your future performance sucks until you fully recover. I have a friend who traveled to the UK last year. Her photos were amazing. Just being out in the countryside must make the running the best part of your day.

I ran in a half marathon 6 years ago at Walt Disney World! It was the coldest day on record for that day (32 or 34 degrees!). I remember standing there at 4:30AM with a plastic bag on that they distributed to people to keep the heat in, and thinking what have I gotten myself into???? But once the race started and I put on that 4 hour playlist on my i-pod and began running/walking, I eventually found myself crossing the finish line! It felt AWESOME!!! Because I did it on my own I kind of found people around me that were running the pace I wanted to be, and I would just kind of fall in line behind them, or spot someone up ahead and try to catch up to them. It worked out okay, BUT I found myself missing having someone to cheer on, and to cheer me on! There were people holding hands crossing the finish line, and motivating each other to keep going, and I wished I had someone with me. I've been trying to convince my son to do it with me in 2 years from now when he's 14 yrs old (min age to run). I think it would be an awesome experience to do it together! :)

Thank you :)!!!! W4...if you ever come to my Aera, I am a willing tour guide, you could proberbly teach me a thing or two about the history, but I know the beautiful country side & know all the good pubs ;) Heidi....yep....thats so true....finishing a workout & suddenly realising you could go on a little longer....an incredible feeling! Blue...yeah...if the weather is good ish there is nothing better than being out there. Not so long ago a lamb was born just as I jogged past. I smiled all the way & felt really priveliged. Connie....hope you can persuade your son, I tried to talk my daughter into it but she went travelling instead. She was the 1 that got me into running(5km for cancer research) & she is my perfect running buddy. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

My mother took a trip to Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, and such a few years ago. She described the beautiful countryside & the many castles. Unfortunately she did not enjoy the food. Keep up the great efforts with your running!
