Has anyone had any involvement with the WI (Women's Institute) I'm thinking of joining - although they do advise you to try a few to find one you like and I seem to have one in every town around me, but am thinking of trying my local one first. I have a feeling I will be the youngest there, but that doesn't really bother me.

What is it?

Heather from what I gather it is like a charity organisation, where they have different groups in different towns of women members, who raise funds for the area - but I see they also do cooking and crafting which could be fun...

Sorry, I am not familiar either - Guess it is not a US thing. But try it and if you don't like it I'm sure you can find 101 excuses for staying home!

I am not familiar with the group either, but it sure sounds like a fun and worthy group to join! Have fun!

Don't know how I missed this entry. Quite a few years back I went to one - but just once. I found it totally boring - it took them an hour to decide and agree on one thing (can't even remember what it was, but it was something trivial). I then joined a "young wives group". Hilarious.... The local vicars wife ran it.... We used to have vicars and tarts parties (the vicar would dress up as a tart!!) garden parties, occasionally, really interesting speakers.... The age range was from 20-45 so not all "young" wives - I made some really good friends. I think you have to choose the WI carefully - maybe ours was boring, because all the lively people, joined 'young wives'. It may be worth looking around and seeing what other groups there are, apart from WI - to give you a better spread / idea. Maybe a ramblers group - to help with your exercise, or maybe there is a theatre or book club.... Depends what you are interested in.... Good luck

Thanks Pam you kind of voiced what I was worried about - that it was going to be frustratingly boring....I will ask my neighbour what she knows about it, but she's a bit of an odd one....
