I am so bummed about the scale right now. I got down to 178 last week and then I got my "monthly bill" and the scale went up 5 pounds. Now that is over and the scale is stuck there. I know it will come off soon, but it's pretty disheartening. I was on a major plateau for 3 weeks, then lost 3 pounds, then my period hit and the scale is stuck at 183. I went to the gym again today and I increased the resistance on the elliptical, which was good. I was doing 3200 steps in 28 minutes at the old resistance. I could feel the new resistance but I still did 3000 steps in 28 minutes, which is pretty good. And I ran a half mile again. When I get back from vacation next week, I am ready to get even more serious about the gym. I WILL run a mile by the end of June, I am convinced of it. When I get back from vacation, I am going to work on running 3/4 of a mile, and I am giving myself 3 weeks to do that. I am trying not to go too crazy with the food on vacation, either. I will be gone for 5 days. I am going to eat breakfast before I leave on Sunday, pack a sandwich and an apple to eat in the car as I drive through Western Kansas, and I plan to go to Chipotle in Denver for dinner before I finish up the drive to my dad's house in Colorado. I have told him we have to go to the grocery store the next day, where I am getting fruit, vegetables and lean protein. We may eat out a couple of meals, but I am going to be very careful. I'll probably go on a couple of hikes while I am there for exercise. Then when I come back on Thursday, I will eat a healthy breakfast at a diner at the entrance to 1-70. I don't know what I will do for lunch when I drive back through Western Kansas - I don't generally eat Subway because I hate their salads and I feel I can't afford 45 grams of carbs for the sandwich alone. Maybe I'll get a salad at the grocery store the night before and take it with me. This is the first vacation I've taken since diabetes and the first driving trip. I am determined not to gain any weight, and I am determined to make good food choices and keep my blood sugar down. I am also going to be prepared for low blood sugar in the car with orange juice and candy. Other than that, I feel fine but a little stressed. I have so many thoughts racing around in my head about a friendship I'm ending, about changes I want to make at work, and just other things in general I want to do to get my sh*t together, so to speak. The combination of being absolutely serious about losing weight and exercising, turning 40, and being a newly diagnosed diabetic is really forcing a lot of issues for me. I'm hoping two twelve hour drives will help me clear my head and give me some perspective.

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate! Something else to keep in mind is that stress will make it more difficult to lose weight, particularly for females (because having a period wasn't enough of a pain, lol). I know you can reach your goals, it is obvious that you are a motivated person who cares about themselves enough to take control of their life. You can do this!!! Remember to breath, and take notice of the small victories (i.e. "I stopped eating when I was full" or "I got a salad instead of a sandwich"). Most importantly- enjoy your trip <3
