Birthday week is coming up,
As a tradition we always go out to dinner for our birthdays, with split families I have one dinner with my dad and step mom and siblings, one with my mom step dad and siblings, one with my hubs parents and his siblings and an evening with cake and ice cream with my grandparents.
SOOO I am changing things up this year...The plan now is...
Friday night I am going out with some girlfriends to Cheddars for dinner then go to What to Expect When You are Expecting!!! I have already figured out what I am going to have and I have factored in a drink too!
Saturday during the day we are going to spend time with my hubs family and go to the zoo. We will probably do lunch at the zoo but thankfully they offer a pretty yummy fruit salad cut veggies, and I will bring a protein bar so I have some protein at lunch.
Saturday night With my dad and step mom we are making homemade bierocks half normal, and half with lower carb bread, ground turkey added carrots, onions, fat free cheese and lots of saurkraut. Then we are going to have an evening outside and I am going to bring my dogs over to play with us! I will stay active with the pups outside with us and we will not go out to eat!
Sunday my hubby is taking me to Hana Cafe for lunch and I am going to splurge on Sushi!!! and I think we are going to see Men In Black at 3:30! I think my hubs parents might join us, but I am not sure yet.
The plan with my mom is Monday meeting at her house at 12 and doing a salad bar lunch! Lots of spinnach, veggies, blue cheese, and a YUMMY strawberry poppyseed vinegar dressing my mom makes and grilled chicken. We are also going to have fruit and a sugar free fondue for dessert. After lunch we are going to play cards and spend the afternoon at her house.
We are skipping birthday cake at all of the gatherings which will be a first for me. It kinda makes me sad just because I have always had cake for my birthday. I know I could do a sugar free one, but it just is not the same, and I would rather not have it then be dissapointed in one that I do have.

It's nice that your family and your hubby's family are willing to do what you want and change things up a little. It sounds like you have some really fun things in store for your birthday week. I am jealous of the movies you're going to, we never go to the movies we just rent. I think with all the fun you'll have and the other healthy foods you'll be eating, that cake won't be missed too much. Have a Happy Birthday!!

Sounds like a great plan! So great that everyone is willing to deviate from the norm, including you! I know - no cake is hard. You can do it!

Sounds like you have some great stuff planned for birthday week! It's great that you've taken the time to work out a plan ahead of time instead of just giving yourself license to splurge for the week. Way to live your healthy new lifestyle!

Sounds like so much fun! And you've got everything all planned out down to the "T" - this is the key with dieting and diabetes. Plan, plan, plan. It sounds wonderful and I know it is a sacrifice. I am a little sad about no cake at my birthday in August, and I am a little sad about no wedding cake at my cousin's wedding in October. It's understandable that you would feel a little wistful - I absolutely love cake. If you are craving cake, Copper Oven makes an incredible sugar free cake. I've had their lemon cake and they make sugar free chocolate every once in a while. They don't make it every day and I think you would need to call and see what they have, but it is well worth it if you are craving cake. With sugar free frosting!

I think you will enjoy your birthday week even more than usual - it's not about the food...it's about YOU and having the special people around you...everyday you look after yourself is a gift to YOU - enjoy :) PS all the food sounds pretty damn yummy too!
