This is going to be a very long road. Good thing it is the scenic route so I won't mind how long it takes me to get there.
I'm sewing myself a silk charmeuse and lace nightgown and doing it by hand so far. I'm reading through a couture sewing book so I'm practicing techniques as I make it. This one has been fitted so that I can wear it now when it is done. Usually my sewing is a size too small on purpose so I have to wait to wear it. That system works well for me for two reasons. One, I don't always like something after I've made it. And, two, I really like it once I can get into it nicely. The black & white rose shirt I'm wearing in the picture I posted today is one that I made last year out of silk chiffon. It isn't perfect but I like it. I've got a few things hanging in the closet now that are small and way too small for me. Items that got too big went to Goodwill.
Ultimately I want to have all of the techniques understood by the time I reach my goal weight and can make myself a Chanel-style jacket. I've got some beautiful navy blue and white wool boucle and a pink silk charmeuse set aside for it.

I remember learning new techniques in sewing. I have a Vogue Sewing book that I learned a lot from. I used to make most of my clothes too. Then I took up sewing for the public to make money and after nearly 5 years of that I was burned out. I still sew, but mostly alterations and repairs for myself and family and home goods like curtains and bedding and such. I've got several projects I'm behind on. Almost bought a serger today at an estate sale, but they wouldn't come down on the price yet. Maybe tomorrow.

We are in it for the long haul aren't we, Darlene? The picture with the black and white shirt is lovely! I understand about not really liking something anymore for a while after you spend a lot of time creating it (heck, I feel the same way about cooking dinner). May I ask, what is a "boucle"? Is that like bias tape? (don't laugh at me)

LOL - now that I think about it, I feel that way about dinner too. And I love to cook.

The link is what I bought. Maybe I got rayon, not wool.
Boucle is a woven fabric. It is created by using different thicknesses of threads so it has a, I don't know, bumpiness(?) to it.. Like a tweed. Mine is super soft and has a really nice drape to it. And, coupled with the silk lining, should make a really nice jacket.

This is a link to a picture of a dress that I just finished. Not sure if the link will work since it is on Facebook.
It is a wraparound dress made of a cotton jersey border print. Naturally, I can't wear it. Once I lose an inch or two in the top it should fit.
