Thursdays 2nd entry,
So I called the clinic, explained only once, (yeah) & was put through to docs nurse right away, she listened, said she would speak w/doc & let me know. I figured, yeah, this could take a while, but it didn't. When my phone rang not that much later I thought, well this is either good, or could be bad...so I answered it!
The nurse explains that my last pap had Ascus cells & that was why they were wanting to re-test in 6 months. She went on to explain what that was & why it was important to wait 6 months as re-testing too early could produce the same results which would escalate things to more doctor visits & proceedures, that might not have been necessary had we waited the reccommended 6 months. She said my current symptoms closely resemble the beginnings of menopause, so unless really severe, or other issues, like rash, fever, discharge, etc., (none of those), please keep pap appointment as scheduled for early August. However, if I was concerned enough about the menopause thing I could make appointment to discuss those issues. Also, please keep track of 1st days of TOM's & bring those dates with me.
In the end it was decided to keep the pap re-test appointment as is & "wait & see" with the other symptoms as of yet.
FYI: ASCUS Pap Smear Results What Do ASCUS Pap Smears Mean? By Lisa Fayed, About.com Guide Updated November 14, 2010
An ASCUS pap smear result is considered to be mildly abnormal. This is the most common type of abnormal Pap smear. ASCUS stands for Atypical Cells of Undetermined Significance, and basically means there were mild cellular changes and the the cause in unknown.
The first step in managing an ASCUS Pap smear is to repeat the Pap test. Many times a slight infection or cervical inflammation may causes a Pap to come back as ASCUS. The Pap may be repeated immediately or within 4-6 months. The doctor may prescribe an antibiotic to clear up any possible infection prior to the repeat Pap.
Remember to not have sex, douche, or use tampons 24-48 hours prior to the Pap smear test. These can often give false results.
The bottom line is that there is no immediate cervical cancer risk in an ASCUS Pap smear. It is very important to follow up with a repeat Pap smear or colposcopy if your doctor orders.

Whew! Good to hear they don't want you in the office - YESTERDAY! And....it's always a big help to know what symptoms merit another call and/or office visit. My first symptoms were a bit goofy too and early in menopause I also got a low-level abnormal PAP result that turned out to be just one of those things. Sounds like your doctor's office is right on top of their patient service!

It is great that they responded so quickly and you know you have them there to talk to. This is one of those "everybody goes through this differently" issues. So my only advice is - Take care and hang tough!
