sharonfriz's Journal, 02 November 2009

Yesterday was tough. I went to see my parents. If anyone has read my old journals these are tough triggers for me. My parents are ill-in and out of the hospital and we are a family of eaters. My mom is homme from surgery so I went to spend the day with her. I had a plan....it went out the window. They ordered in chinese...I ate more than I was hungry for and they filled a candy bowl with my favorite halloween candy-ughhh. I thought I was in the clear after saturday. After 3 unwanted, didn't taste great pieces I moved the bowl and my mom was upset because "she bought it just for me" to which I explained -thanks for the thought but I am not 12, I am 44 overweight and trying to cut back on things like candy...and had come to talk and spend time together- we didn't need to focus so much on the food....no easy conversation. She was sad or disappointed or something. I felt bad about not eating the stupid candy she bought for me- see what a sick food brain I have. I know even as I am typing this how very ill all of this is. Healthy people do not eat halloween candy to make their mother happy. Clearly sharon brain needs to do some more work.

I can relate to that. My grandmother was like that too. They are brought up old school. Their way of showing their love for you is by feeding you. I used to love it when I was young and able to do it but when you are trying to lose weight it is hard. Next time try pocketing some of them to look like you ate them to make her happy and then throw them away. You are not going to change her so try and trick her. lol Don't feel bad today is another day and you will do better. Families can be rough some time. Belive me I know it!

I'm sorry about yesterday. Thank goodness I can't relate to personally. I know when I go home my mom likes to cook my favorite things (which there are alot). Also have snacks/sweets out in the open which I love and try not to bring into my home. At least I can talk to her about it without disappointing her. She would also like to lose a few pounds. BUT on a happy note. Look at your chart. You are doing so well. Today's a new day. Do your best... it's impossible to make everyone happy. Maybe do something special for you. Have a good day.

Well, I understand the pressures from family. My mom puts pressure on me, but in a slightly different way that's also difficult to deal with. She gets depressed if I look heavy. You'd think it would be pressure that would help me lose weight, but I can tell you that any interference is bad. My mom never helps me, as much as she wants me to lose weight, even though I know she's trying to help me. But you mentioned "healthy people." On that note, healthy people are also able to go over their calories a little for one evening and still get right back on track with their eating. So try not to let it get to you. Your weight chart looks so good. If you can get right back to dieting, I bet your chart will still slide down, even with the evening of candy and Chinese food.

The day after I started this diet (Xmas eve 2 years ago) I went to see my mom. She surprised me with a pot full of homemade candy and cookies. UGGGH! Any other year I would have been thrilled. Hope your mom is doing okay now. I know you will put that behind you and get right back into your groove!
