Be excited and eat smart... see if they have an online menu... if they do, they might show the health details of each menu item... you can choose in advance of going there what you will have and how much "damage" it will cause your RDI :) Just a thought... it works for me. Have FUN!

I hear you Deb, I feel the same way when I have to eat out, but I try to make good choices, (protein and veggies) only. Maybe a glass of wine if Hubby and I choose to do so...but nothing else. Enjoy yourself and just eat the good stuff... Have a great time.. :D

we just made plans for next Friday night. I know we will go to bertuccis. so other than pizza or pasta - they only other thing on the menu is salad... so... I either have to do very low carbs for a few days before to tell myself its ok to eat them or get the salad. I still haven't decided. checking the menu is a good idea. but really. even if you splurge, just fix it after. you know how!

Be excited. A chance to order food that you like that is also good for you. Eating healthy portions and selections and no dishwashing afterward.

Thanks, everyone! I think I will see what the online menu says! I have less than 2 hours to get ready. Trying to finalize what I'm going to wear. Going to go through my closet again. Trying to calm down now! lol

You can do this. Baked or broiled , nothing fried. Stay away from the bread, empty calories. Ask for sauces, dressings on the side. I always bring my own salad dressing, nobody minds. I just ate at red lobster and ordered a new salmon dinner that had a picture of it on the menu. It was broiled salmon with crabmeat on top. They brought it to me smothered in cheese sauce. I sent it Back cuz it wasn't anything like the picture suggested. Don't be afraid to ask for what u want, I find that a lot of places are very accommodating these days. Drink lots of water too. But enjoy most of all

If the chicken or fish comes with rice, can I ask for a substitution? I'm not a low carb person, just limit my carbs to below 200. I'm ok if I eat just a little bit of rice, like 1/3 cup. 2/3 cup of rice is my max amount!

Thanks for all the support and comments. I have another restaurant dinner on Saturday, but it will be no problem, because I got through this one and I survived!

Well done - navigating restaurants can be hard, especially if there is peer pressure.

Be excited AND be prepared. Actually I realize I'm probably a day late, hope it was great.

I ate less calories for breakfast and lunch, and that made me really hungry by dinner. I even ate the roll and butter before they brought the salad. I walked a lot, so it evened out. I am really happy that I did not gain weight! It was great!

I know what you mean, I ate light yesterday because I was having pizza last night but I ate too much pizza because I let myself get too hungry. I should have eaten an apple before I got too hungry. I sometimes have a salad before I go out to dinner to curb the temptation of the breads/butter goodies. Of course you could also ask them not to bring bread, but sometimes I just like to see what it is, silly huh? We had a wine tasting last night too. I am trying to figure out which wines to serve at my daughter's wedding reception. It is fun, but calorie costly. But I know what they are now so no excuses from now till Oct 11 !!! Deb, going out to eat is very challenging but it can be done. I limit my carbs to 210 daily. I do enjoy a baked potato or mashed white or sweet potatoes. I bring my bacon ranch salad dressing with me and pour it all over my baked potato and all I have to count are the calories in the potato because my dressing is 0. I do add butter to my sweet potato tho, haven't found a substitute for that yet. I don't waste my calories on rice because I don't find it filling enough.

Good for you for knowing what you did and why you did it! AND for getting things even ;-) Learning to manage different food situations is a part of the process IMO. Maybe next time around have a fairly substantial low calorie snack about an hour before you leave? Because those rolls and butter look EXTRA SPECIAL when you're really hungry!
