DairyKing's Journal, 31 July 2014

Good Morning, FS Warriors! I was running a little behind this morning, so I only ran a little over 2 miles. I did step it up a bit, so I could say that I got a decent workout in. It's going down to about 60 overnight every night this week, so it has been really great for running. For traditionally being the hottest month of the year, it has been unbelievably comfortable. I kind of blew it yesterday. OK, I didn't kind of blow it, I blew it; two MacDonalds fish sandwiches, french fries and an Iced Hazelnut coffee. My rationale was that I wouldn't have time for supper until after worship practice and family night at the church, so after feeding the dogs, I wouldn't get to eat until 8 or so. Made sense to me. The real problem though was that, after 8 o'clock, I heard the leftover spaghetti in the fridge calling to me, "Eat me, eat me." What was I to do? Of course, I ate it. Felt guilty, watched the rest of America's Got Talent" and went to bed.
I know I don't have to have it; I can tone up without it, but I have been seriously considering getting a Total Gym. I like the idea of using your own body weight and being able to adjust the incline so you control just how much of your body weight you use for resistance. I've read a lot of reviews online, and am leaning toward the 1900 or the XLS models, which fall somewhere in the $500 to $700 range. I'd appreciate any input or comments anyone has for me, who has experience with them. I have a universal gym that takes up quite a bit of space, but has the leg lifts, butterflies, lat pulldowns, bench press, etc. So, anyone that wants to chime in, let er rip.
All for now, Toodles!

I think if it makes you happy, or you think it will make you happy, do it. We only have chance at this life ~ go for it.

I don't know, Bella, there's other things I think would make me happy, but I don't think it's allowed.

I also have a home machine, with all the features yours does. Variety is good, in fact required in my mind. Sticking to ONE machine or routine is not effective eventually, so I encourage you to try whatever you like. :) I'm always changing what I do for excersice, though I do stick to them for a while. (3 months to up to years at a time. which resulted in bursitis in left shoulder and took a year to heal.) I also like to read online reviews and today found this: http://worldfitnessnetwork.com/the-truth-about-muscle-recovery-time-short-version/ Very nice.

So it's not only me that food calls to. I swear I can almost hear it saying my name sometimes... :-)

DK... if you get one, let us know all about it. You once suggested it to me and I also looked into it but the price seemed steep. hhhmmmmmm other things to make you happy. Rather vague.

I was looking at that Weider Ultimate Body Works, which is a knock-off of the Total Gym for $155 and free shipping at Amazon. It's got over 210 great reviews, and says that you can do all the same workouts and use the Total Gym exercise charts. They say it's heavy duty and well put together. I'm also looking at a lot of Craigs List offerings as well. Obviously, it doesn't pay to pay full price. I don't know how you would know what you're getting anyway. I saw the Total Gym Platinum advertised on the Home Shopping Channel for about $350.00. It seemed to be a super machine, and I didn't act fast enough. I went to the Total Gym website and they want as much as $3,500.00, and don't even list the models that you see on Amazon or the Home Shopping Channel. What!!! I'd say Chuck and Christy have quite a racket going on there. Just sayin.

OK, here's what I chose to do: I found that the same thing was even cheaper at Walmart with free shipping to the store (or to home for that matter, just takes a little longer). I bought the Weider Total Body Works 5000 for $130.44 +$10.76 tax for a grand total of $141.20. Reviewers say you can either download the Total Gym manual for workouts or go on YouTube. Weider socks it to you on replacement parts, but like some of the reviewers said, "There isn't anything on this machine that you can't replace via the local hardware store." Since replacing the 4 bungee cords would cost more than the machine cost, I guess it's a disposable machine, or a DIY dream. Either way, it seemed like a better deal, considering the equivalent Total Gym was near $500. IMHO.
