Diea's Journal, 31 July 2014

No weight loss this week. :/

It's alright, though. I'm still pretty stoked about being in the 140s again after over a decade. I continue to do the happy dance when nobody is looking.

I am getting very, very itchy. My skin is stretching down and I just want to scratch everything! It's especially torturing in my upper body, where I stored a lot of my weight. What to do! I already use aloe vera and cocoa butter lotion. I heard that scratching is very bad for you but I can't remember why. I'm sure I read about the reasons not to scratch years ago when I started my journey, but I can't remember the details. I just remember the lesson of not scratching yourself.

Any tips on the itch caused by weight loss?

You might be allergic to something your are eating. If you have allergy pills, just pop one and it should take care of the problem or take a Benadryl.

Over the counter hydrocortisone cream, itching goes fast. I buy it at 99 cent store or try Walmart for cheapest. Not ointment, cream, ointment is greasy. Doesn't have to be real strong, does the job. My hubby uses it for psoriasis breakouts.

Thanks everyone. I doubt it's allergies. This happens to me each time I lose more than 10 pounds at a time or more, so I've gone through this plenty of times in the last few years. Because of that, I don't know that allergy pills will help. Perhaps the hydrocortisone cream will do the trick. Thank you!

I love that we are all here for each other in the FS community and that we all get each other, more than people around us. It's so hard sometimes. People around me just dismiss or criticize what I'm doing, tempting me to eat just a little saying it's not bad. I'm so glad you all get it. :)

Correction" I should have said "low 140s" instead of 140s. Sorry!

Most likely it is water weight. You have done a fabulous job at losing. You are almost at goal. Keep it up, you will get there for sure.

I use an oatmeal emulsion cream from Neosporin (no antibiotics in it) that's designed for eczema. My skin got horribly dry with the dry cold winter. This stuff is amazing. I highly suggest it.

My body wash [when I take a shower] has a moisturizer in it, so I think that may be the reason I have not had an itching problem. So glad to read your journal, Diea. Keep us updated on yourself!

Diea, I wonder if the itchie skin isn't caused more by the change of diet rather than the actual weight loss? Regardless, try a good moisturizer first. I use different ones but a favorite is Aveeno. If the moisturizer doesn't do the trick, perhaps it IS a food reaction? Is there anything that you eat when you're losing weight that you don't eat at much otherwise?

Diea, I saw your correction comment on this July 31 journal. You can go to the original journal at the top and click on the little edit icon and change it. Add the "low 140s" instead of 140s. The edit on the original journal can be edited to add things or change spelling, etc.

Vickie, there are so many things I do different in terms of nutrition when I'm losing weight as opposed to when I am not. Who knows what it is. I really thought that it was just the skin stretching down so rapidly. Look up the topic "Itchy skin when losing weight??" on the myfitnesspal website. That's pretty much my issue. It looks like I need to up my water intake considerably.
