Just saw an interesting tip of using a sectioned child's plate for portion control. Thought that was a neat idea. Anyone ever try that?

NO, but I have used a smaller plate because it makes the portions look bigger, lol! There is also a plate you can buy that shows you how much food you should eat of each food group. It's a portion control plate. But a kids sectioned plate could work too.

Interesting, but they would work but are usually ugly. I tend to use antique pretty dishes, even the dinner plates aren't as big as the modern sets. I have several luncheon sets that are perfect. You eat with your eyes as well. I need to move one set down lower so I don't have to get the step ladder to use them. I have 10 foot ceilings and cabinets go all the way up. I've inherited tons of dishes.

I use small plates too and I variate the patterns from several sets of dinnerware. AESTHETICALLY APPEALING meals are awesome! No plastic mugs or drinks from cans. I like using what I call "fancy" crystal goblets to make my water seem like something "special" and I use a small salad fork so that the food on it seems BIG. Whatever works, right?

Hey teacher try, I do the same, a feast for the eyes. I seem to slow down and enjoy my food if looks amazing. I save my corelle dishes (they are beige and don't complement food, I inherited those as well ) for prep or my grandkids as I have 18 dinner plates. For family holiday dinners etc. I have a set of 24 of white antique Havilland china. I add mint leaves, a raspberry, a sliced strawberry, lemon balm, lime basil, rose petals, etc. to my water in beautiful crystal wine glasses, I have over 100 wine glasses, many antique, might as well use them. They look so cold and pretty. Now for portable or working in the yard plastic insulated ones are the best. Here in hot humid Missouri I take ice water everywhere. I like feeling special!!!

I measure all of my food, even the salad dressings, eyeballing doesn't work , I used all of my measuring spoons and cups every day, I might need to buy more, I weigh out my meat, you need to have a scale too. Don't try to guess, be exact.

el Toro, I do not understand your comment. Instantcrazy posted something she saw and knowing what she posts was interested in feedback.

where are we going? lol My plates are red, my bowls are red, my cups are red...I like red. I have yet to achieve food nirvana where all my food is pretty. I know it would probably help to do that as well. Maybe I'll start picking up some random plates when I see pretty ones.

Isn't it odd that plates have gotten bigger as we have? or vice versa.

Yes, that should definitely work.

Let's pull this thread back toward the original question about using a child's plate containing tiny sections for child sized portions. Using a child's plate would not appeal to ME personally because of the association I make. There seems an implied lack of sophistication. When we were little kids in the sixties, the grown ups got the fancy glass dishes and sat at the table with the linen cloth. We kids sat on floor pillows around the "kids' coffee table. Our tiny portions were served in plastic "bowl plates." Now that I am 57, I like a glass plate and a crystal goblet.

I just eat off of a beautiful saucer.

Teacher try, I feel the same, and our school cafeteria had trays set up like that. No offense pinkrose. Though the kids plates do help one with portion control.

I always wanted a set of 4 red stoneware. I have a set of white that I like. Check thrift stores and garage sales. I see many beautiful dishes in thrift stores, I always look in the dish and pan section, I keep looking for cast iron pots, that I don't find.
