Instantcrazy's Journal, 28 July 2014

Well, this weight stuck so maybe it will last for another couple days. Yay!

Did splurge a little yesterday, it was my and my girlfriend's two year anniversary. :D Had fettuccine alfredo with tons of veggies, and garlic bread. Hope I don't pay for that on the scale tomorrow.

Went to the library last night and got a vegan slow cooker cookbook. Pretty excited about that. Now maybe I can come home to real food.
184.6 lb Lost so far: 29.4 lb.    Still to go: 44.6 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Sometimes splurges are necessary. Don't let it get you down if the scale tries to derail you tomorrow. Just take it with a grain of salt and get back on the wagon. New eating habits aren't built in a day. You will love the slow cooker. It makes meals so much easier.

Thanks guys! I love me some garlic bread. Sigh. Ok I can do a week. Since it was my anniversary, it was worth it. Linda I have really missed my slow cooker since I've gone vegetarian. I can cook all kinds of meat in it, but haven't really had time to experiment with veggies.

Share with us if you find some good ones. I love my slow cooker to. My aunt made a stuffed cabbage head in hers. She hollowed out the cabbage head and stuffed it with turkey with all kinds of good stuff in it plus the cabbage from the inside. I think she said she poured a can of stewed tomatoes on it. She added garlic ,onions and herbs to it. When she served it she sliced it in quarters.

I found a website with 100 no-processed food slow cooker recipes...it's stacymakesscents.com...just search for "100 Days of No Processed Meals-Crock Pot Style"...there's some good ones on there....

Definitely share. I'm trying kamut in mine after I get home on Saturday. It takes 2 hours simmering on the stove, thinking crock pot would be better.

For vegetarian stuffed cabbage you could substitute grains for the turkey.

IRONICALLY>>> Tonight, I made cabbage rolls for my dinner tomorrow night. They are all rolled up and ready to just be heated when I get home. I saw it today on a cooking video. I stuffed them with lentils, walnuts, and rice. I hope they are good. Love the idea of the whole head of cabbage! I took some of the lentils put them in a skillet poured balsamic vinegar on them and cooked it until the vinegar soaked in. It was pretty good. Thanks Socolova, I will look up that site. Wholefoodnut, I have never heard of kamut until today. I saw a cooking video with it too. WEIRD!

I rarely make cabbage rolls but layer the same ingredients, sort of like lasagna. To me if I make rolls the cabbage turns tough and the inside is good. I really like cabbage so look for it to be tender and good.

Instantcrazy, the combo sound really good.

I will let you know. The recipe had NO seasoning. I cooked the lentils in veggie broth, added a splash of balsamic vinegar, and used Vidalia onion marinara sauce instead of plain tomato sauce. I've never made cabbage rolls before, but I'm sure somewhere a Polish grandmother is rolling over in her grave.

hehehe, you know cabbage rolls were peasant food using what was available, the seasoning made it specific for the region. More likely your gramma would be proud of you. onion marinara sounds good...

Fyi balsamic is seasoning in the traditional sense as it is flavoring not on cooking shows, that means salt and pepper. I tend to use seasoning traditionally.

Cabbage rolls, pigs in a blanket, or as we called them pidgeons. Don't ask as I have no idea the reason for the name. We stuff them with raw beef, pork and cooked rice seasoned with tomatoes/sauce. Okay... needing to get a head of cabbage now.
