kitty-eared-girl's Journal, 27 July 2014

Since we moved in about a month ago, I've been working on running around my block to keep in shape. The route I take is a mile and a half, and when I first started I averaged 15 - 16 minutes to complete. Earlier this week I managed 14 minutes, and after following some breathing advice from my boyfriend (who ran sprints for our high school track team) I was able to complete it in 13 minutes yesterday! No idea if that's good from a runner's perspective, but I'm loving the progress (also loving that the scale is trending downward)

I'm hoping to keep moving in the right direction, as we have a wedding to go to mid August.

Hope everyone else is having a decent time of things, a lot of my regularly-updating friends here seem to have gone missing!

Happy Sunday!

Well, that's definitely much better than what I can do, lol. I'm more for indoor/air conditioned exercise environments. =P

@ Reverse Will - I have a hard time staying focused on a treadmill, end up quitting earlier. When the weather's nice and I can be outside it gives me more to look at (otherwise I COMPLETELY agree on the A/C, haha!)

Hi, Kitty-Eared-Girl. Can you share the breathing techniques your BF gave you? I'm really interested.

@ makeupfetish09 - It was basically to breath in through the nose & out through the mouth. He did sprints in high school and that's what they advised him to do. I've also read somewhere that you should try to keep your breathing even...I try to inhale 2 - 3 steps and exhale about the same. Its harder than it sounds to try and concentrate on that while running!

When I was young and had good knees to where I could still run, I used to hold a popsicle stick in my mouth so I HAD to breathe in through my nose. Not that it helped. They could still time me with a calendar, but just sayin'.....
