We all hit rough patches and have to make difficult decisions on spending. I might suggest that instead of just two meals a day, take that same food and spread it out throughout the day. Even if they are small bites, they will keep your body from going into what they call "starvation mode". This happens when you eat very little and in between get super hungry. Your metabolism will drop quickly and your body will start storing the fats - which makes you gain weight. So spread the food out in the day, drink lots of water (a natural appetite suppressant) and go for walks which will also stave off hunger and boredom. Good luck!

Men always lose faster than women because they have more muscle than we do. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn at rest (which is why exercise is important). I am not sure why you are gaining, but your body may not like the one meal a day thing. Find some inexpensive foods you can eat throughout the day. Fruits and vegetables are in season and many quite inexpensive (banana's, strawberrys, etc.). You can have toast with a table spoon of peanut butter and a banana in the morning. Pasta and tomato sauce are inexpensive. Measure out portions. Iceberg lettuce is inexpensive with some tomatoes. Eggs are great with protein. A bag of potatoes. You might do some googling to find ways of saving and recipes.
