hoosier436's Journal, 24 July 2014

Ok, I did not get much sleep last night, but this is getting kind of discouraging.. No I have not really changed, at least I do not think so, any eating habits, and I am eating less calories than I have been- (cause I am full)... and yet I am GAINING! I know that there are a lot of factors that goes into weight.. and I know that I should be weighing myself once a week.. but a part of me feels that if I don't then I will miss "red" flags-- like this..
I feel like I am a big hypocrite, giving advice to people when they are struggling, and yet I do not follow my own advice when it occurs to me.. I am so sorry....

I relate to your journal today. I experienced a major mess up yesterday so I am thinking "I am in NO position to offer up advice to anyone." I did not realize that you weigh just once a week. I weigh once - sometimes twice a day. Now I am wondering if such frequent visits to the scale are detrimental. Sigh! Let's keep the faith! Okay? Okay!

Everyone her slips up, we're just human after all. Part of what we do is try to help and encourage each other, that is what I've seen you do with what you say and with advice given. No apology needed. Hang in there, weight loss seldom happens in a straight downward path.

Our bodies do talk to us...so listen. Perhaps you didn't sleep well because of something you ate or a chemical imbalance or emotional stress or the brain being on overdrive (too much thinking). So don't worry and don't stress because that will add to the problem. Be confident, be happy, drink lots of fluids (water especially) stay on your diet, and you'll be back to the weight you're comfortable at.

Just information :-) -- I do weigh myself about once a day- lately there has not been that much difference- except for that the fact that I am gaining weight.. not loosing it... Also I did not get much sleep last night due to the fact that I closed the store last night, and then had to come in to open- the manager called in sick... I was suppose to have the day off today, but stepped up to the bat and came in- for the next couple of days I will be closing and then getting up early...

ok i looked at your diet journal and your carbs have been creeping up and your protein has been getting lower than your previous average. Those in of themselves don't really matter because you are still within caloric deficit range BUT now I'm wondering two things. 1. if your carbs are going up and your protein is falling, then what is your salt intake been like lately? and 2. Are you logging everything? Weight, when you are doing everything right, goes up in three instances. One, salt intake raises causing water retention. Two, if stress has skyrocketed lately that can result in your body making extra cortisol and cortisol aids in ...yup...water retention. Lastly, some people's bodies will show a false raise when the body is preparing for a big dump. Suddenly you will step on the scale and it's all gone plus some. Some bodies just work that way. Mine has in the past. Finally, have you been excercising? Because look at it this way, if you were losing on an average of 1800 calories a day, with exercise and you take that exercise away, but are still eating 1800...see where I'm going with this? So are you exercising still? If you are logging everything, you are doing it right, don't let it get to you (remember stress makes cortisol) and just ride it out. Otherwise, if you aren't logging everything, then you know exactly what you need to do.
