Did 30 minutes of rowing last night. Amazon Prime kept buffering so I wasted time fiddling with that, which slowed down my rowing start. I blame Verizon for falling below the speeds they promise. They may be throttling Netflix and Amazon Prime. Today, I got a one-day trial of a VPN for my Kindle Fire HD and "Justified" on Amazon Prime loaded just like that. Last night, I wound up watching "Supernatural" on Netflix. "Supernatural" and "Person of Interest" are on network television tonight which should give me plenty of content to get my row on. Both padded bike shorts and running shorts arrived today. The padded bike shorts photo on Amazon shows them turned inside out, making them look like a baboon's rear end.

The Soffee running shorts are snug around the waist at small but they are cooler than my usual street shorts - and since I've lost a waist size or two - fit better than a lot of shorts I already have. I'm tempted to order a medium because they're so cheap but I think I will just try to lose more weight to get them to fit better. I may go ahead and order some more in other colors once I lose more weight. The bicycle shorts are snug around the waist with a large size. Such are the vagaries of clothing sizes. The running shorts are made of nylon and the bike shorts of polyester. We'll see which does better with the rowing machine.

The memory foam pillow arrived. We'll see if it does a better job with my neck than the regular pillow, which is going under my knee. I'm let it air out for a day or two, which fine because I have to scrounge up a pillow case.

Today's my birthday. Not feeling the urgency to do anything today. Thought I might order takeout tonight to celebrate, which I never do, but I wonder if I'm just using that as an excuse to eat, as if I ever needed that. Today is an up day on the 4:3, which means I can eat what I want within reason.

Since I started my weight loss efforts some time ago, and got serious about fitness almost five months ago, I've made progress. I've lost some weight but I've already had my easy victories. Getting body fat to 20 will be harder, just as it will be harder to lose my last ten pounds or so now that I've reached a new setpoint/plateau. Regaining muscle mass will be the hardest part. There's only so much I can do with the strength training since I'm limited to three days out of the week, and a 45-minute dumbbell session is the optimal training period, according the magazine/book I'm using. The other days I can work on posture, flexibility, and endurance (cardio). Forgot to do my wrist curls yesterday, will catch up today.

Sixteen minutes of stretching in bed, 40 minutes of eight great exercises for posture and flexibility from "Age Defying Fitness."

Looking ahead, I hope to get to the point where I can do heavier weights. For safety reasons, since I lift alone, I will probably shift to resistance bands, although those aren't without their hazards: five reports of people getting blinded by resistance bands during CrossFit. I also read some accounts on Amazon reviews of people using Thera-band straps getting nasty welts.

When I first got on my fitness journey, I got some resistance bands in three different strengths from GNC. The one sheet that came with the bands wasn't particularly informative. I wound up going with hexagonal dumbbells from Target for my strength training. Saw the Lifeline TNT Cable System with a DVD on sale at Woot for $20, decided to give it a whirl. Here's what I like: 1) you can buy and swap out stronger resistance bands (the GNC version is fixed); 2) A black 100-pound resistance band will set you back $19 on Amazon whereas 100 pounds of weights will cost you a minimum of $100, not to mention taking up more space; 3) you can get an attachment for your ankle and a belt that allows you to walk in place with resistance. This appeals to me because one of my target areas is legs. Anyway, for a minimal investment, it's another avenue to explore in the event I outgrow the dumbbells I already have.

Temperature's not bad but headed to 89 and 96 tomorrow. Body fat at 27.9 (mildly dehydrated). That's the lowest I've seen but probably not too significant due to daily water weight fluctuations. Feel some soreness in my thighs.

I've decided to Free Cycle my ten-year-old Dell laptop but first I've got to find where I put it. I've been moving a lot of stuff around. I also want to recycle one of my scanner/inkjets but I want to make sure it's out of ink first. Since I won't be firing up the Dell desktop until fall, which is the only computer I have that can handle a printer, that will have to wait. Out with the old junk, in with the new: my Kidde carbon monoxide detector arrived. The detector suffers from the bane of cheap electronics: the batteries don't fit into their slots easily. When they do, they protrude, which means you can't close the cover. Once I get it working, hope it enhances of my chances of making it to another birthday in another year.

Happy bday 2 U! :D Celebrate - eat in, eat out, but eat healthy - order something you normally wouldn't! :) I've been using a memory foam pillow for years, does wonders, besides the heat wrap in the AM around my neck while I have coffee. :)
