I think this recommended 1600 calories a day when I'm used to more like 800 is killing me! It's been fun finding things to eat, but I'm going to settle down now and go back to what I used to do when dieting. I now have 11 lbs to go whereas I started with 8 I think. Man!

Sorry to jump in on your comment but you were only eating 800 calories a day before?

Hi, I have been to many weight loss clubs before and they always say not to eat below 1200 calories, regardless how much you want to loose, because there's a fine balance between eating healthy and eating too little. You can always use the 400 calories on healthy foods, such as fruit, veg or low fat yogurts. And don't let one bad week put you off, I'm sure you are doing really well!

Thank you guys for your support. Yes, I was at the 800 range. Felt great to bump up to 1600 for a few days. I ate pizza and peanut butter! However, I think the 1200 range would be more appropriate.

That is actually very accurate. When a person eats in a reduction for too long, it can have a very lasting negative impact on their metabolism. I was curious to know where the recommended 1600 calories came from also. There is not one single RDI calculator that is accurate when it comes to making recommendations on a person's intake.

Congratulation on your huge weight loss! I agree with you that you should be eating 1200 cals a day. In the beginning you may gain some weight because your body is used to 800 cals a day but soon enough you will start losing again.

How long were you at the 800 range? If you don't mind me asking, what are your goals, to maintain, or continue to drop weight?

I just read your profile and it looks like you are trying to drop that last bit of weight and eventually maintain. The last is the hardest. If you were at 800 for too long, it take time for your metabolism to get used to the increased calories so jumping from 800 to 1600 will be shock on the body. 1200 is actually on the low side too in my opinion. 1450 is about where I would suggest.

this site recommended that for me when I lost some weight and recalculated my RDI> I was doing those 800-900 days a LOT. now im where I want and im trying to stay at 1100-1200 and some days its hard and some days its easy. I felt better eating less actually. do whats right for you. good luck!
