mrsmole's Journal, 20 July 2014

Not unhappy considering how much I've eaten out in the past 3 days! My goal is really to just hit a solid 200 by August 1st, and I'm perfectly on track to do that.

My new method for losing "one pound a week" is as follows:

I weigh myself every day (I may not post it here, but I have a book by the scale). At the end of the week, I add up the daily weights and divide by 7. That gives me average weight for the week. If that weight is a pound less than the prior week, I've succeeded.

For July,it's looking like this so far:

June 29 - July 5 = Average daily weight = 204.1
July 6 - July 12 = Average daily weight = 203.5
July 13 - July 19 = Average daily weight = 201.9

So if you average the averages, I'm losing one pound a week, and that's just what I wanted.

At this rate, It will be 201 by July 26th and 200 by August 2nd (close enough!).

I like the idea of a weekly average much better to see whether I'm really losing weight. It's the best of both worlds - weighing daily and weighing weekly. At least for me!

201.0 lb Lost so far: 79.0 lb.    Still to go: 52.0 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

That's great. I have no doubt that you will get below 200 by the end of the month if you stay on track. You can do it!

I am liking the way you figure that. I freak out over the numbers I see every morning. Mostly disappointing but occasionally great. Your way of figuring seems to make more sense. Seems my Friday weigh in that I report in my challenges really doesn't tell the story because a one day weight isn't a true reflection. I could have had too much sodium and the night before and that will definitely throw off the scales with water retention.

I figure as long as my arrows are pointed downward that is OK for me.. BTW you are doing fantastic and your concept is good because the slower you lose the better chances are of keeping it off.....and you will be able to maintain your goal weight in the long run.. You are doing it right...Keep up the good work!

Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone! I also used to get freaked out by daily weigh-ins, but I also didn't like the idea of weekly weigh-ins, either, because what if that, too, is a bad day? This allows each day to have its say without swaying the final number too much. Not sure why it took me almost a year to figure this out. I'm so much more relaxed about both my daily weight and my long terms goals now. LOL!
