Kathy-Revisited's Journal, 23 April 2014

I titled myself Kathy-Revisited. I used to be in pretty good shape but probably never really ate all that well. I was much more active. Now I have four children and work full time. My goal here is to learn more about nutrition and cut out sugar. I'd also like to find a way to work in some exercise that doesn't require a gym or long periods of time (which I still don't have much of).

if you're looking to cut out sugar that's good.. if you want a healthy sugar substitute, try Stevia. Also, if you don't want a gym or long periods of workout - go to www.blogilates.com She will work you.. maybe you could even get some of the kids to do it with you. As for nutrition.. just shop the outskirts of the grocery store.. that's all you need. then shop the middle for kids. As a mom, I'm sure you always make a list before going to the grocery store.. stick to it!! Mean what you say and say what you mean because you depend on yourself to stay fit and be healthy.. Plus you'll be a good model for you children and maybe even your husband.

Thanks Jyeza! I copied your website suggestion. I like the shopping method too. My major problem is probably "white" foods including wine:) I tend to squeeze in meals between work and kid schedules. I end up cooking lots and lots of different pastas because it's fast. We also eat late at night due to schedules.....that one probably isn't changeable for a while so I'll focus on the "white foods" I think.

Since you don't have a lot of time try doing little things to add exercise into your life like when going shopping park as far as you can away safely and walk, the usual take stairs instead of elevator, etc. I heard a neat tip from Biggest Losers many seasons ago about while watching a 1 hour show if you get up and move just doing the commercials you will be getting a total of 30 mins of exercise. Most people think you have to do all the exercise at once but for some people that just isn't possible. As long as you are moving you are burning calories so the more you can incorporate moving into your daily life the better off you will be.

Thanks guys! I'm going to try walking tonight while I'm waiting for my son at soccer practice. Great ideas to fit exercise into the routine whenever possible. That would also help me not feel guilty about taking time away from them. Working Mom complex!!

my boyfriend is a pasta and meat eater!! I have a hard time, I've gotten into the habit of cooking him a separate meal while I have a salad with some fruit or nuts. I cannot eat what he eats because my butt says NO! Although my boyfriend has been really proud of my eating and exercise, he hasn't joined me. He has however been very supportive with my choices.. sometimes a high five is all I need to feel that support that I'm doing what I know if right for me.

My husband loves to bake homemade bread from scratch. With that and the pasta, I'd really lost complete control. Didn't matter how many veggies I ate. I told them all what I was trying to do. All the kids said they were tired of pasta anyway:)) and my husband was at least willing to start experimenting with a whole grain bread recipe. I'm going to shop for ingredients from some of these recipes on this website. Any favorites out there???
