ChristyLA's Journal, 22 April 2014

To continue my workout streak, today I did 26 minutes of upper- and lower-body strength training exercises, and used dumbbells for a couple of the exercises. During the short warm-up and cool-down, it felt great to stretch a little. I definitely want to do more stretching. Overall, I felt energized today. And later, when I went for a 3/4 mile walk, I didn't feel worn down from the workout earlier. I'm loving the feeling I get from working out! I look forward to working out, because I get to move and strengthen my body, which is a nice change from all the sitting I do with my career. And I think I'm enjoying exercising more, because I'm doing it for my health this time, not to lose weight. My objective is to get stronger and have more endurance so that I'm in good shape. I'm looking forward to observing my progress as the days go by :)

When in the right amount, exercise will make you incredibly energetic and make you want more ;). I think I heard recently that exercising in the morning had a bigger effect on your alertness than drinking coffee ;) I definitely get that "can't wait to do it" feeling when I'm exercising every day, especially when it comes to the indoor cycling, which I do while watching YouTube lol. Mixing aerobic exercise with strength training is great because, besides being more complete and you getting the slightly different benefits from both, you also get to burn calories without having to do too much of the same thing :) You will definitely progress! Just a matter of time!

It's always nice when we can do things for health instead of weight loss! Stretching is probably the one thing I don't do. I do some stretches after I run or if my back is bothering me. I usually use it as an after thought. I should look into doing more of it as a preventative.

One of the things I plan to do this summer is put sixty pounds of weight on a pack-board and go for a hike. It's what I lost. it should be quite telling. Have to start getting ready for moose season anyway. :)

I'll have to keep that in mind, Euheide, about the right amount of exercise being energizing. I liked that feeling. Much better than being overly sore and worn out, like I got yesterday from power-walking for an hour and when I do heavy weightlifting, because it eventually takes away my desire to workout. I believe it's best to do both cardio and strength training too, for a well-rounded exercise routine. I think both are beneficial in their own ways. I actually only drink decaf coffee in the morning and a natural fruit/veggie/superfood supplement that gives me a bit of energy :) White tea, chai, and diet soda is where I get caffeine sometimes. I have more energy by being off caffeinated coffees and cappuccinos!

I've finally reached a point, Skywhite, where I'm not doing anything for weight loss anymore, and it's a relief. I've been on this journey for 2 years and I'm glad I don't have to put forth the extra effort anymore. Of course, I am continuing my lifestyle, just not as strictly. Stretching is supposed to be very good for the muscles, ligaments, and joints. I feel great when I stretch every day and watch myself becoming more flexible. I reached a point where I wasn't getting any more flexible and I think that's when I gave up stretching. But I should definitely return to it!

I live in an apartment on the third floor, Northernmusician, and the stairs are steep, and I am still slightly winded and tired when I reach the top. I really don't know how I did it when I was 100 lbs heavier! At that weight, I used to carry lots of grocery bags too! I guess we all get used to the extra weight when we've had it for so long. I do notice I feel lighter and thinner in my body now, which is a nice feeling :)

I avoid coffee but for a different reason - If I drink coffee after waking up, I will have trouble sleeping at night lol ;) I'm glad exercise is working out for you!

That's definitely something to think about Christy, regarding how we adapt to changes in weight. I can't believe I'm carrying less 7kg/15lb than I was when I started. I thought that, when that happened, you would start defying gravity like if you were in the moon lol but, unfortunately, that didn't happen :P heheheh

Thanks, Sherrie! I plan to keep it up :)
