Had a fun date with DH yesterday. We took DD1 to school (she had school because we have to make up a couple snow days.) DH is tech support for the same school system but he didn't have work as he is comsidered "non essential personnel". Staff who had to work yesterday got holiday and OT pay, but the county doesn't want to spend a lot of money on staff, so even though my husband's job is important they gave him the day off so they didn't have to pay him. (I have a lot of strong emotions regarding public school, with frustration being one of the biggest ones, but I try not to get too caught up in the politics and dysfunction of it all.)

In any case we got to have a relaxing day out, meandering through thrift shops and enjoying Thai food for lunch. :-D!!! We found some new clothes for me and the girls. DD1 got a new pair of ballet slippers, DD2 got a sundress, sandals (her first shoes!!!) and a new hat, and I got a couple new skirts, blouses, and a pair of short heels. Over half the clothes that grabbed my eye didn't work for one reason or another, but all the stuff we did get was ~$30. :) Bonus: I can shop in the juniors section now! I tried on a blouse that was sized small and it fit! The skirts were 9/10. DH found some shorts that were a size 8 and they fit! (For reference at my heaviest I was a L/XL top and 14/16 bottoms, now I fit S/M tops and 8-10 bottoms! Woo!) :)

Congrats on fitting into juniors! Its such a great feeling when you can fit into clothes you like instead of having to buy them because its all you can find that fits. I taught for 10 years in public schools before quitting due to the politics.

Thanks! I'm sorry to hear that politics ruined the teaching experience for you. :( I had wanted to be a teacher when I was younger. I am woefully unqualified to teach currently (most teaching jobs require at least a BA and prefer an MA; I finished half of an AA), but education is one of my passions. I can't help but see the system around me and think, this COULD be so much better, but it will NEVER be better as long as we stick to status quo and keep perpetuating such a broken, backwards learning structure and feel a sense of futility and discouragement. I have a lot of respect for teachers who are passionate about their job and their students and persevere to serve in spite of everything stacked against them.
