I'm amazed at how slowly that weight spike is dropping. This weigh in puts me a half a pound above where I thought I'd be but well below where I thought I'd be by the end of the month. I was flirting around the 175 mark, so this could be pretty close. Oddly, looking back now I'm not sure those fleeting pleasures were worth it. I'd have probably enjoyed an extra couple of apples, oranges, or other fruit more. I'd have felt better about it too. Have a good day everyone.

Sometimes you have to eat what you think you want to reinforce the fact that you really did not want it in the first place. For instance, lately I am so curious how a big mac meal with a large fries, 6 piece nuggets and drink would taste. After eating real food and not having mcdonalds for over 8 months, would it taste good? Maybe. Would I feel sick afterwards? Probably. Am I going to go get one today? Absolutely not! Will I have eat it ever again? Probably. And when I do, I can guarantee that I will not want another one for a very long time. It’s good at the time and it only takes like 15 minutes to eat, but dealing with the consequences of that choice goes on for much longer. You’re doing great NM, don’t sweat it. now you know. 

Reading what you, Bill and others write and seeing what's happening with myself, is the ability to lose the gained weight after a feast some sort of a phenomenon that happens to those who are at or close to goal? I was once able to gain 4 and drop it in 4-5 days. That doesn't happen anymore. Takes twice perhaps 3 times as long and that's staying true to a healthy eating plan and exercising regularly. Just trying to find a common factor.

Bigbassbrent..yea. When you dont eat crap for a long time, it WILL make you sick when you do. I found out the hard way!

Thanks Alex. :) Your right, @Brent. We are looking at 15 minutes. Now, you see, I felt a little guilty about it all so I whisked it away to my hotel room. Yes, guilt. (For me it was the double quarter cheese with bacon, large fries... and of course a diet rootbeer because I'm watching my weight.) The odd thing was, I opened my laptop and began surfing the web and it took me, not a word of a lie, at least a half an hour to eat that burger. I don't think I even really wanted it. I just 'could', so I did it. I won't be revisiting McD's for a long long time. @CR. I think that any weight gain you have at the low end (close to the goal) is harder to get off because you're metabolic rate has already been reduced. This is why someone who is extremely obese can see weight losses of 2/3/4/5 pounds in a week. That's because cutting back close to what you should be eating for the frame beneath is way under what you have been eating to maintain your body fat. That's my take on it. Talk to a competition bodybuilder about cutting from 12% bodyfat to 6% and they'll tell you about depression, grief and an extreme fight to get off those pounds. The other thing you should remember is that I am eating over my maintenance calories, so cutting calories isn't even a consideration for me at this point. I'm debating now whether to end the bulk at the end of April, or the end of May. I'm thinking the end of May, but I'll have to see. I also think the weight gain I experience is far less about the calories than it is about the sodium and the white flour overload. @Notjune. In general, I agree, but at the same time, I didn't feel that bad after it, though I can say I didn't feel the level of stomach satisfaction I had hoped for.

The only thing I'd like to wade in here and offer is .. next time you go for the fast food crap .. as yourself on the very FIRST bite.. 'was it as fabulous as I'd imagined it would be?' If the answer isn't 'oh, heck yeah!' then put it down and think about getting something else. I used to have 'anything goes' day once a month - what some people call indulgence or cheat - and would force myself to eat all that greasy crap as a 'live it up ... this'll hold you to the next time' way of sticking with it. It didn't work for me... it failed.. on many levels. This time around .. about a month in .. I decided to get my fav .. whataburger .. one bite in and I was like 'wtf' ... gave it a few seconds .. thought about it.. second bite and I went 'nope, no no no' and threw it away.

You're a strong woman, Bella. :D It's a really good idea. So what if I've spent $10. Is it worth a half a week to me. All of these little ways of dealing with things. I appreciate that idea.

Bill. That's what scares me. Any kind of a routine that takes me the wrong direction. When I cut, I tend to stay hard and fast. It's the only thing that works for me.

Wow! And here I thought "I" was cheating with a low carb bagel. LOL!

Heh, heh, heh. Nice thing is you know exactly what you need to do now to counter it.

OK - I understand. So part 2 ((just sharing from Eat What you Love)) is 'if it is really really good... eat it slow. Savor it. Take small bites and rinse your palate in between and think about the texture, smell, taste, everything about it. Even try to imagine where the ingredients were originated. Give your brain time to catch up with the tongue and say 'whoa, that was just enough'. Not spouting as an expert here - just sharing what has truly helped me 'this time around' on this weight loss / healthy living journey.
