Ruhu's Journal, 16 April 2014

I first of all have to say thank you all so much for the love & support! I've been feeling it & it does help so! Mom has slowly been getting stronger, and it's sounding like she'll get to come back to the retirement home later this afternoon, but into their skilled nursing area where she'll be closely monitored & receive physical and occupational therapy. The infection is slowly clearing and her oxygen levels are better, but she still has congestion and is coughing. They're hoping to wean her from oxygen before she leaves.

I'm doing ok, better now that she getting better, but fell into my old habits and had sugar to comfort myself when the stress & emotions were too much. But today is again another day, and another chance to eat & live healthfully and mindfully. As I now realize again, sugar is a temporary fix at best always ending in making me feel worse in the long run. As I read somewhere recently, for me one bite of sugar is too much and one hundred bites are not enough. So, gluten, lactose & sugar free it is for this gal to feel her best.

It's not clear yet how long mom will be in the skilled care unit but it sounds like it'll be at least a week. I'm now thinking I'll stay until Sunday, spend Easter morning with her & Easter dinner back home with my boys (DH & one of my DS as other will be at school). I'm doing my best to care take of me too as I care for mom. I've been working out each morning, praying for serenity & tonight I have dinner with one of my friends here. And with renewed focus now, I'll pray, breathe, log, journal and express my way through this one day and each one meal, moment, bite, thought & emotion. I am again more grateful than I could ever say for each of amazing you, my family & IRL friends, that mom is getting better and hopefully getting back to the retirement home today, and having the health & wealth to live this life I love! Glad to hear Mom is progressing well, what a relief. I so agree on the bites of sugar analogy, so true, so true indeed!

Pleased your mom may be coming back to the retirement home. Also... That you are now exercising, eating mindfully and seeing friends. As for the blip... Just that, a blip that you can learn from... We all have them xxx

Hi Dear, not sure if I commented on the previous journal? Just letting you know I'm thinking of you, and reminding you not to beat yourself up about the sugar. It's a blip on the radar is all. The plan to come home on Easter Sunday sounds good and hope and pray that things go according to that plan. Thanks for taking the time to check in, I know you have precious little time right now, and fewer emotional resources. Look after you above all else, ie put your own oxygen mask on first :) :)

It's great to hear that you mom is doing better. That has to be a huge relief. I love how anywhere you go you can find a routine to keep yourself active and that even if you had a little sugar detour you are back to knowing what really works for you.

Oh Angel - prayers prayers and more prayers for you and your mom and family. You are out of your element, visiting, and am so glad to come back and read this better this afternoon to see that you are having dinner with your friend there. I am sure you will find a way to express your emotions without reaching for candy. You can do this. You've been practicing a year and getting stronger day by day with this method. When you're sad - remember, you are loved.

Glad to hear your mom is on the mend. Good luck with not eating sugar! I know in times of stress old habits can rear their ugly heads.
