DairyKing's Journal, 16 April 2014

Good Morning, FS Warriors! It was quite chilly this morning at 33F as my feet hit the pavement circa 4:15. There's no silly walking to get warmed up at those temps. You either warm up on the treadmill before venturing outside, which consumes more time than I can afford, or you go out the door at a trot - which i did. I can't say that I ever make it much beyond a trot, but it's a good 3/4 mile before I am sufficiently comfortable enough to be thinking about the running instead of the cold. If I didn't don two layers, I would have to be moving faster, and longer, before I generated enough body heat to be warm. Been down that road before. I know I can go out in the teens with just one polyester shirt on and generate enough heat to make it through the run, but I've gotten spoiled, and I don't like being that uncomfortable for that long. I intentionally kept my pace rather slow, and was actually able to keep my HR under 145, which is a terrific accomplishment for me, especially considering this was a 3 mile run.

Halfway through the run, I was pleasantly surprised to come upon 3 deer that were crossing the road, going from people's yards and heading into the woods. Two of the deer easily scaled the fence that bordered the road, but a smaller deer was unsure of himself, and ran along the fence line looking for an easier opportunity. I slowed my pace even further to keep from spooking the young rascal, and he eventually found a place where he mustered up enough courage to hurtle the fence. It was one of those moments that made me grateful to be out before humanity had a chance to impose upon the environment.

April 16, 2014 Running Before Dawn

Quote:
DW was standing nude, looking in the bedroom mirror. She was not happy with what she saw and said to me, "I feel Horrible; I look old, fat and ugly. I really need you to pay me a Compliment." I replied, 'Your eyesight's damn near perfect.' And that's when the fight started.....

Now, you know that didn't really happen, but I probably had some of you going. Wishing you all a wonamous day! Toodles!

LOL - yeah, I can imagine if that were IRL we'd be reading your obit by now! Love the deer experience - it is magical isn't it? Cutty and I came upon three like that once horseback riding - we ALL froze in the center of the dirt road. I think 'we' were holding our breath trying to make that vision last as long as possible. Something just so magical about those things.

LMAO at your quote... Brilliant. What a brilliant experience, coming upon those deer... Makes jogging in the early hours an absolute joy. By the way- jogging, rather than running isn't bad when you get to our age... Far kinder to our knees :-)

LOL, I'm so gullible, you really did have me going just for a few seconds! I was thinking, "He's sooo DEAD!", LOL! We're very blessed to have a creek frontage property. "Deer Creek" to be exact, which it a very appropriate name as we can look out our dining room window & often see deer & other wildlife browsing right in our yard. So wonderfully lovely to watch them, but not when they eat up all of the veggies in our garden & the fruit from our pear & plum trees, before we can get them! But we still love them & enjoy seeing them, & after all they were here first. (sigh) Needless to say, we have lots of lovely deer photos, hee hee! I admire your stamina to go jogging in such freezing temps ~ if I could jog (which I can't due to disability) I know I would not do it when it's that cold. Your weight loss is coming along nicely, so kudos to you, & have a great day!
