mah1166's Journal, 15 April 2014

Well it has almost been a month since my last journal entry and I am still struggling. I start out good and by the end of the day, I cave into night eating. If I could only last a week without eating at night I think I could be successful. I am so frustrated. Physical exercise is not a problem for me I exercise daily, it is the night snacking. I kind of know my triggers and try to fight then they win. I guess I have no motivation and feel like giving up sometime. I have to think of this whole journey as a life change and not a diet. Will start again. Here we go!!!!

Diet Calendar Entry for 15 April 2014:
425 kcal Fat: 24.91g | Prot: 33.87g | Carb: 19.99g.   Breakfast: Hard-Boiled Egg, Designer Whey Chocolate Protein Shake. Lunch: Cucumber (Peeled), Chinese Cabbage Salad with Dressing. more...

I get it, after a hard day of denial, it's easy to relax too much at the end of the day. I have begun to approach a better lifestyle by remembering that I don't have to eat food the way it is presented or packaged. I eat the quality I crave by picking over my food and planning my snack times menus before I discover I am hungry.

That is the only thing that you can do is pick yourself up and you are right it isn't a diet it is a life changing journey. If you are giving into the nightly snacking try eating vegetables since they are low calories. I have been making a lot of mistakes this past week and eating more and I upped my rmi to 1800 cuz I was worried about the fact of dropping 7 lbs per week but I think it is time to get serious and just keep going at that rate and try to get under my 375 lbs by the end of this month.

I found that telling myself there would be no eating after seven really helped me. There are times when it is later but I do pretty well overall.

My snack the other night was homemade hummus and fresh green beans -- knocked the hunger edge off. I'm a big proponent of brushing and flossing teeth. No way am I eating after doing all that...who wants to brush and floss twice!?!?!

I look at my food diary and I am like...what happens after 4???? It is crazy. I have tried eating more for lunch and it has not changed the way Ifeel after 4. I am going to keep trying and I am going to try the Aldis protein bars...I am usually low on protein. Keep me posted on anything that works!!

I can sympathize with your desire to eat at night because I fast. I discovered that having sugar free popsicles and sugar free jello in place of real food has really helped me stay on tract with fasting. Though you are not fasting. FIND food that you CAN have that will not sabotage your day time efforts. If that means I have 3 popsicles (10 calories each and 2 carbs each) or 2 sugar free jello in one night then I have them and in the morning I have stayed on track! I don't fight the urge, I give into it but with something I can live with. I hope this advice helps you! :) Deborah

I have read that newer studies show sugar-free and fat-free products actually stimulate the appetite and cravings! ((GASP))! You get the flavor but the lack of protein and fat means you don't register that you're satisfied. Proteins and fat satiate. So, we may be better off just eating a handful of nuts or whole-milk yogurt and nutty granola. Might try buying an organic, whole-milk ice-cream and keeping to one serving (or even a half serving). Even strawberries with mascarpone or ricotta sweetened with turbinado. I looked at the fat in some items I used to buy vs "low-" options and I really wasn't saving that many grams. Plus, it usually had a spike in something else (sugar, chemicals or sodium, etc.). The research has made me an avid whole-food cheerleader these days. I urge you to try it with an open mind and see if it works for you. <http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Strawberries-and-Cream> Hope this helps!

I heard that those sugar free pops, jello and pudding can delay the end of sugar cravings, but I say, whatever works! I ate some pistachios today (20), and that was fun when I was cracking them open, but after I ate them, I felt like I didn't eat anything. The evenings are the hardest for me. I am going to try a sugar free popsicle. Maybe the cold will be satisfying? My Doctor told me to take L-Glutamine to stop sugar cravings, but I need to just stop craving food PERIOD. We will get there!

I have not had problems with sugar cravings while using the sugar free popsicles and jello in place of food that have carbs. When fasting the goal is to not have food. These two items work perfect for that. SO if your goal is to not have night time feeding- these though not perfect (artificial sweeteners) work very well at satiating the need to eat/chew.
