Phatatak's Journal, 14 January 2014

Well I have been following my diet very well these last few days, of course it helps that I am broke and can't afford any fancy food, actually sadly enough I can't really even afford fresh fruit and vegies, but I have got frozen veg, lentils and soup mix, with a stock cube, dash of soya sauce you can make anything taste good. I am having to rethink that fallacy that broke people have to eat cheap bad food, you can eat cheap good food, just shop wisely, your diet will be boring, but its getting you to where you have to be and eventually things will get better; I feel that someone needs to explain to supermarkets that overpricing fruit and vegies is not on, all the good stuff goes for export and we are stuck with 2nd grade stuff at above 1st grade prices, its ridiculous, here in South Africa we have an abundance of fruit and veg, its just overpriced.
Something new I am trying, working out how many carbs, calories and protein I want to eat at my 3 meals and 3 snack times, highest in the morning and lowest in the evening. I am now in the process of working out interesting meals within my A blood group (dadamo is a good site for getting recipes) and within my cal/carb/protein ration for that time. Nice and complicated and guaranteed to keep me busy.

http://cookingmatters.org/get-involved-cooking-matters-your-community Saw this and thought of you. I hope the New Year is going good for you. If not use the Chinese New Year it's January 31, 2014. :-) I'm trying to get healthier…my weight is down a little…and my Dreaded Diabetes numbers are down…I can stress how important that is…having had Type 2 for over 10 years now…and seeing some of the complications. It only gets MORE Special as we get older unfortunately. Maybe this website will give you some ideas on how to convince your groceries in your area. I have just simply asked my stores to stock some of these items I want…and they do make more of an effort I have found if you request with others…hey…how about trying to supply this…and you have to follow up and purchase or they will not repeat if they get burned. But I have found some are willing to work with people who need things for their diet if you talk to them. Good Luck in the New Year. Clay
