Perseverance....faithfulness in action. Continuing on, even when we don't think that we can, when it seems futile to even try anymore. When we have reached that point where we don't think that we can do this one more minute, that what we are doing just isn't working and isn't worth it anymore, what do we do? Do we just give up, or do we continue on? When we are walking our paths in life, and it all seems just too hard to go on, just more than we can bear....do we simply walk to the side of the pathway, and sit down, and give up? Or do we persevere? What would happen if we just took one more step, gave it one more day, tried one more time? What if that step, that day, that time was where we saw all of our efforts come to fruition? What if we stayed the course, were faithful to ourselves, and just kept going? What if the light at the end of the tunnel was just around the next bend, but instead of going on, we stopped? We would be denied the rewards of all of our hard work. We would be giving up, not just on what we were trying to accomplish, but on ourselves. The only way to develop perseverance is to experience the circumstances requiring it! Perserverance is often the only thing separating success from failure.

When I heard the lesson yesterday in church, I was astounded. So many times what my pastor teaches is just what I need to hear, just when I need to hear it most, not only for my daily walk, but also for this weight loss journey that I am on. I am so impatient, and I often forget that all things come to those who wait....wait and continue to hang on, continue to do the hard work, continue to follow the pathway that God has set us on! We tend to have our own ideas about how long something should take. We live in a fast food, microwave society, where we want it all and we want it now, and if things don't happen as quickly as we think they should, we simply give up, let go, stop trying, sit by the wayside.....often right before we would have achieved success. Have you ever tried to water ski? It takes perseverance. Have you ever tried to learn to play an instrument? Perseverance. Ever tried to teach an old dog new tricks (something I am doing now with this stray we adopted 15 months ago)? Perseverance. Ever tried to lose weight? LOTS OF PERSEVERANCE!! Perseverance is faithfulness combined with patience. It is letting God do His work, on His timeline, (2 Peter...8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day) and staying the course. It is realizing that not everything that we do will only take a minute, an hour, a day, a year....it may well take the rest of our lives, but if we just hang on, just take that next step, the rewards will be astounding! All the difficulties that we face along life's journey, and the ones that we face on our weight loss journey, fit into the master plan that God has for shaping our souls, for making us into what He knows we can become and who we will one day become, if we simply turst that He knows waht is best for us...how will we handle those difficulties? Do we give up or do we persevere? The choice is entirely up to us! I am choosing to PERSEVERE! The result will be a life that shines!!

MERCY ME-THIS LIFE

this is not my home
(this is not my space)
this is not my style
(this is not my place)

Can't get comfortable
(cant get settled in)
I simply dont belong
(cant get used to this)

But I'm here right now
(I can hear You say)
make the most of Me
(this wont go to waste)
If Im out of my mind
(yeah its all for Christ)
if Im making sense
(then get it right)

every moment is a chance to
let Your light break through

this life (oh oh oh )
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh )
this life was meant to shine

I dont have to stall
(I dont have to wait)
dont have to bide my time
(till I make my escape)
cuz heavens in my heart
(I won't settle for less)
I will lift Your name
(by the life I live)

every moment is a chance to
let Your light break through

this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine

its in my heart
its in my soul
I'll live everday
just to make You known

cuz this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to
meant to shine

hold your heads up high
this is our moment to rise
we were meant to shine
not just survive

hold your heads up high
this is our moment to rise
we were meant to shine
not just survive

hold your heads up high
this is our moment to rise
we were meant to shine

this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine
this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to shine

its in my heart
its in my soul
I'll live everday
just to make You known

cuz this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to
meant to shine

its in my heart
its in my soul
I'll live everday
just to make You known

cuz this life (oh oh oh)
this life was meant to
meant to shine
oh oh oh

we were meant to shine yeah!

Since the big quake my sleeping patterns have been crazy. I can usually get to sleep but struggle to stay asleep, esp when aftershocks still like hitting in the middle of the night LOL. Not feeling them as much now but it does nothing for staying asleep. Also I must have slept with my hand bent and I lost circulation ROFL!!!!

Oh, I completely understand all those reasons for being up early. I was actually sleeping very well this morning, when I felt this snakey little lick on my ear....wasn't my hubby, was my border collie!! He climbed into bed with us and gave me a kiss! Too cute! lol So at that point I was wide awake, and decided to just get up! My mom just called..she and dad are going to come up this afternoon and mom is taking me shopping to get the stuff for my Christmas baking! She knows times are tight for us. How sweet is that? I am going to make all the things I always do, but I just won't eat any! The fudge will be the hardest, but I do have a recipe for SF low carb fudge that I am going to try!

Thanks Steph.. great message. I know what you mean about the message being just what you need right when you need it. Being the first Sunday of Advent, our homily was basically patience and preparedness. "If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into." Made me think of my weight loss and lack of patience and perseverence. Where are you that you are troubled by quakes? I though we in so cal had the market cornered on that!

I can just picture your Border Collie doing that! I'm partial to the herding breeds anyway and that photo you posted of him reminded me so much of the character of our very first dog who was a Border Collie mix. Have fun shopping!

Barbie I live in Christchurch, New Zealand. Had a huge 7.1 quake on the 4th of September at 4.35am. Didn't sleep for the first week basically and haven't slept well since LOL

Barbie, we don't have many quakes here in the midwest (except for the New Madrid fault), but my dear friend Squiggs is in New Zealand and she has been dealing with the effects of the huge quake that they had several months ago. The aftershocks are numbering in the thousands. God has this awesome way of sending just the message that I need to hear, just when I need to hear it. And then there is my dear brother, who just sent me a text with this (this only part of the text): James 1:2-6.."2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."
