I did it for the first time and it was very difficult. The kid did not finish his donuts and instead of me just not even thinking of it and eating it I thought to myself do I really need that and the answer was no and instead I tossed it out. I grew up with a dad that if someone in the family didn't finish their food he would finish it for them. I grew up seeing that and have followed. Today was the first day that I feel like I really thought do I need that do I need to eat that food.

good for you! I have days like that - especially when I do home cooked meals and with my youngest having trouble with eating (her brain is telling her she must lose weight). there is sometimes food leftover, and I think it is a shame to waste it. but like you I have to ask am I really hungry? can this be saved for later? and then act on the answer.
