Janeness's Journal, 27 June 2013

I am in shock.. I know I was going to run into trouble when they said dim sum and also dinner.... Two huge meals in one day... I wasn't ready for this. On top of that my entire backside is so super sore from yesterday's workout. I pushed myself too hard. I thought I was ready... I mean I have built up some endurance but honestly my body was not ready for the over the top workout ... I did lots of jumping, weights, and then the insanity fit test, jogged a mile until I had knee pain. I split this up into two seperate workouts but it was too much. I regret it now... I knew I was not going to be able to workout today so I did so much yesterday. Ah well I didn't even have a green juice!! Tomorrow I will rest from working out but I will drink my green juice and protein shake... Try to get all this food out of my system for my Weekly Friday weight in.

You have to be SO careful with exercise. Doing twice as much one day because you know you can't do it the next can be very dangerous/harmful to your body, as you've just discovered! More importantly, if you hurt yourself to the point where you can't really do much physical activity at all, then you are much more prevalent to put on weight. Take it easy! Listen to your body when it tells you you're pushing too hard. :)

IT IS OK to go off your diet and exercise plan every once in a while! Don't beat yourself up over it. What was really going to happen if you missed one day of exercise while also eating a ton? At worst, the scale might jump a few pounds. But did your clothes fit any tighter today? Probably not to any noticeable degree. I agree with Iamaitresse. Your overcompensation with exercise could have caused a serious injury, which could have stalled your exercise routine by months! If you feel the need to exercise but can't because of an event like family dinner-day, find creative ways to fit in some movement. Invite family members to go on a walk after dinner. Play on the floor with younger relatives. Heck, go do squats in the bathroom for five minutes--no one will notice! I think instead of stressing over one day of bad eating, you should focus on the good memories that were made. If that doesn't work, focus on the progress you've already made! You are awesome! A little dim sum can't take you down! Good luck, get some rest, and take some ibuprofen!

Thanks Lamaitresse and Eden6 - you are right - I shouldn't stress too much. It is just for the first time ever, seriously in my life, I finally am eating right and working out. I am so anxious to keep up my exercise and eating right habits... I didn't even realize I was pushing myself so hard...I know my husband tells me to take it easier too. But I don't feel it in the moment...thank you for your concern :) It means a lot to me and I hope that I can stay on track and just be consistent with my working out. I want to do it everyday. :) And yes I had to take some ibuprofen LOL

Your body needs a rest in between so it can recover :) If you're doing a full body workout one day (eg. lifting weights), it's probably better to rest the next. If you really want to workout again, try doing some cardio -- treadmill, bike, etc. You can also focus on different areas of the body each day; lower body one day, upper body the next, and abs the day after that. Remember that it took a long time for you to get to the point where you are now, so it's going to take some time to get back into optimal shape, too. :)
