I made homemade pizza last night. I was under my calorie count because I was busy all day and didn't eat till dinner but I really over ate the pizza. It was heavy and now I feel like I'm back where I started. I know I'm not but I love pizza and I ate way too much last night.

I am a freak for pizza. Always have been, always will be. In order to be able to keep it in my diet, I started making my own so I would be in control of what is on it and keep it healthy. These are the rules that work for me. 1. Make it regularly. ( I make a pizza every other week. I never have to go a long time without and don't have to deal with deprivation). 2. I use some whole wheat flour in the crust. (Not much. The texture of the crust is too important, but using some whole wheat makes me feel like it is healthier. ; ) ) 3. My husband likes Hawaiian so I usually go with that because the canadian bacon is pretty low cal, but every 3rd or 4th pizza has to have italian sausage. (That is another deprivation thing.) 4. On my half of the pizza I add lots of mushrooms with the other vegies I have to have, peppers and onions especially. (The mushrooms have a nice texture that makes me feel like the pizza is meatier.) 5. I refuse to cut back on the cheese quality. It has to be real cheese! I am careful with the amount of cheese. As much as I love having the extra cheese, it just adds too many calories. 6. Probably most importantly. To be able to control my portion of pizza. I eat LOTS of vegies along with it. I cut up carrots, celery, radishes, whatever vegetables I have and fill half of my plate. I cut the pizza into 1/2 portions and put two on my plate and limit myself to that. I eat the pizza slowly and really savor it. Stopping between pieces to have some of those vegies. (I repeat it the next day for lunch. Knowing that I get to have great pizza 2 days in a row really helps me keep things under control. Knowing I will be having it again in a couple weeks helps, too.) I hope something here helps keep pizza in your life in a healthy way, too!

Thanks. It was pretty healthy pizza. I've been making pizza's for about 10 years and have always loved it. Its more the weight it makes me record due to the sure wieght of the food more than the calories. Like I said I was under calories for the day it just makes me feel like I cheated bad. But again thanks for the tips. I love veggies too so maybe I'll load up with the next pizza binge :)
