Djburney's Journal, 29 January 2013

Had protein and fat for lunch-check. Walk to Pike Place Market and have a crab cocktail-check. Skip the bread and pasta in the Italian restaurant and order salmon & vegetables last night-check. Say no to dessert even though everyone else at the table had their own-check. Drink club soda in the bar while everyone else had beer and wine-check. Walk around downtown Seattle for 3 hours-check. Record weight loss on FS-ch....huh? Gained almost 2 lbs? How did that happen? I recorded everything I ate yesterday, you can see that nothing there should have showed a gain. Maybe it's remnants of a gain from the weekend splurges. Ah well, I'll keep at it today, although I'll be sitting in meetings and they are serving fruit and pastries for breakfast. Maybe today would be a good day for a fast.

On Sunday, I went to Nordstrom's and had the Chanel makeup artist give me a makeup lesson. She was really talented. I know that I spent too much, but Chanel is just such high quality cosmetics and I wanted to continue the look she gave me. It must have worked, I went back to the hotel bar and a cute young guy talked to me and gave me his card and asked me to call him! I won't, but it was flattering! Now I'm trying to duplicate what she did.

Job update...I will be presenting my dropout recovery program to Arizona mayors at next month's education meeting. I just got an email from the Tucson mayor. This is huge.

Well sound like a great day anyways... could it be hidden sodium? Weather? Regarless nice job abd sounds like a fab-boo day :-)... right down to attention from a nice young man. Always flattering isn't it :-)?

All that walking could cause your muscles to store fluid...I wouldn't be surprised if it was a temporary gain.

I agree with the others, it will all come out once you get settled down again. Just pump up the water and vitamin C.

Soulnoid, why vitamin C? I don't have access to it right now, but i'm interested in knowing the science behind that? Thanks everyone, I think it was my indulgences over the weekend catching up, and it'll be gone tomorrow. No worries, I'm doing the right thing. I'm also on an antibiotic, I think that can cause some water retention, as well.

Awesome day I would say!

One of my journals the other day was about this - when you do so much to resist temptation and are rewarded with a gain instead. SOOO frustrating. Just temporary, but still annoying. Accept that fact, and move on. Today will be better!!!

I think this happens when we eat out because of all the hidden salt and sugars in the sauces, and will be gone as soon as you get back home. Vit C is a natural diuretic and should help if you had too much sodium, just enjoy the moment for now.

The science behind vitamin C and weight loss is rather weak. The only major proponent is Paul Jaminet with the PHD (Perfect Health Diet) and there are several problems with his theory. IMHO weight loss or gain is firstly a hormone problem and has very little to do with the amount of exercise done and i any case the weight scale is a very poor indicator for success or failure.

Mystery gains are the most frustrating. But keep doing what you're doing because I'm sure the gain is no fault of yours - probably from all the restaurant food with all that high sodium and other ingredients we don't normally add to our own recipes. How flattering, indeed, to be approached by a cute young guy at the bar! You go, girl!

Hey Debbie - you are doing everything right. Just hang in there. Are you drinking plenty of water? I agree that it could be all the walking and the antibiotic. Lots of water will flush it out. I love Pike Place Market!! I hope you are having decent weather. MMMM the crab cocktail there is SOOOO scrumptious. Have you been there early in the morning to watch them tossing the fish...so fun to watch! Hope the rest of your trip is amazing. Hang in there and I know you will see a loss!

Why vitamin C? I don't really care how you want to look at it scientific, the world is flat to right? Catskinner, if it works for her, it works, if it doesn't, it doesn't, no big loss (I use the scale also at this point and I feel fine about things). No reason to be so negative. I know when I feel blaaaw and bloated a few days of vitamin C and lots of water cleans me out and I am in a better mood. I recently have gone on and off for a week at a time and seen a huge difference in the way I feel, but everyone is different. We are all here to learn and share.

You are doing everything RIGHT! Weight will fall off soon. Now let's talk Chanel. I have been using Chanel for years and love it. So much that I had to make some changes so now I only use their Quad eye shadow (Mystic Eyes), their concealer and their waterproof eyeliner (Ebene). Their eye makeup remover is the best at not burning your eyes. I had to stop the expense there by not using the moisturizers and eye cream. Makes me really sad but I now use the Cetephyl moisturizer and an eye cream from Ulta - Boscia Enlivening eye treatment. The trick is to make friends with the Chanel SP close to you. They will give you Chanel Sublimage samples that will last up to 6 weeks. You have to ask for them. Glad your trip is going so well and that you got a great email from the mayor.

Soulnoid, easy on my buddy Catskinner, this guy knows his science and I don't believe he was being negative at all. I'm not a big fan of the "clean out" theories, it sounds like I'm a drain or something, but I do take Vitamin C when I'm at home. Along with a bunch of other supplements. I'm really glad I brought my scale, it gives me a lot of motivation because I know how quickly it can shoot upward. Susan, I bought a Raffinement eyeshadow quad and eyeliner, and LOVE them. Spendy, but freaking amazing stuff. I knew you would get it! I also got a bunch of foundation samples. Love-ly!

Why drag the flatness of the world into a question about vitamin C and why do you think I was negative? The body tolerance to Vitamin C is very low and it has a very effective mechanism to get rid very quickly of the excess. There are some evidences that tend to show that in humans, who are among the very few mammals that can't produce Vitamin C, there is an adaption to use Uric Acid instead in order to prevent the collagen synthesis disruption that is the cause for scurvy. The scale is an issue because it tend to cause an obsession and I think that Debbie will be the first to agree that it happens to her occasionally, despite knowing that the body weight will fluctuate around +/- 0.5Kg a day no matter what you do. IMHO measuring body fat % with a tape or caliper is slightly more difficult but is a better indicator for success or failure.

I want to see pics of the new makeup application. I recently did a similar consult with Aveda and loved every minute of it. They video taped it, too, so I can refer back to what they said to do. Come back soon so we can hang out again. :)
