Another beautiful day, its going to be hot but the nights are cool now so the house doesn't get unbearable. Finshed emptying out this big planter that was sitting in the shade and nothing growing, took the dogs out for some exercise, put some chicken wire up to keep Baby Girl in the back yard, killed the hops that are taking over the side yard and started the housework.
The other day I was going into the city early in the morning and when I turned on the windsheild wipers to clear off the dew they went scritch, scritch over the frost. I could see my breath but it wasn't bad enough to hurt the tomatos. Just a reminder that this warm weather will end soon. I'm hoping that we can get well into September before we get a hard frost.
I'm grateful for
My wonderful dogs and all they joy they bring The way I can move easier and with less pain My herb garden and all of the fresh herbs I have gotten this year

Frost??? WOW! You know, it has been such an odd weather year. We were sweltering just a couple of weeks ago with record heat...now the nights are in the mid 50's! Just too rapid a change, but the tomatoes like it. At least for now. You got a lot done today! Isn't it wonderful when you can do things and it doesn't hurt? I love it when that happens! lol Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Yikes! Hard Frost in September? How far north in Canada are you???? We are in Minnesota and frost still waits until late October or early November!
|
We have some of the weirdest weather I have ever seen. I live just outside of Calgary Alberta, it is the high plains next to the rockies. We can get snow any month of the year, I have seen snow in June. Edmonton that is north of us has a much more reasonable climate. I think I has to do with the elevation here and being close to a large mountain range that funnels these north south winds. Somtimes in the middle of winter we get these warm winds called chinooks. It can go from -30C to +10C (-30F to +50F)in a matter of hours.

Oh what a beautiful area! And amazing you can have a garden at all in that climate, right?
|
Yes we get it all, floods, droughts, blizzards, tornados, extreme cold and extreme heat, hurricane force winds. Does make it challenging to garden but I have got some perennials that come back every year.

You did get a lot done! WTG! My goodness, you do get all the weather! Isn't that something. We are dropping to the 50's at night here too. I can't believe it. Normally August is pretty hot .. night and day. Yep, the weather is definitely different anymore. It's awesome your tomatoes are doing well and your herbs. Deer have made a picnic out of my potted veggies by the fence. Won't be putting them beside the fence if I pot them again. Hoping to have the garden area tilled up next year.
