CAR SEATS AND CRITTERS...

Well, yesterday started out with a bang. I got up, did my journal, had my coffee, got ready and headed out to the car to go to mom's for her doctor's appointment. This is what I found...

This WAS the rear driver's seat of baby...my Cutlass. We leave the windows open when it is as hot as it has been, since the heat is so hard on the leather. Evidently a critter got in there and decided that my leather seat needed to decimated! Whatever it was did a very thorough job, as you can see in this picture, even the frame has been bent.

The seat is now shaped like an "U". I did some checking and a replacement seat is around $500, plus the shipping. I am going to pull the seat, clean up the mess, and leave it without while I search for one at salvage yards. In the meantime, it will be a 3 seater. I was terrible upset about this for most of the day yesterday, and to be truthful, I am still upset, but at least it was the back seat, right?

In other news, mom's follow up at the eye doctor was great. Her vision is 20/25 again and she doesn't need to return for 6 months. We went out for breakfast, then back to her house and picked up her little doggie, the truck and composter, and headed back to my house to spend the day. We made BLT sandwiches and fried zucchini, then back to her house. While there I picked her tomatoes, mowed the grass, and blew the leaves off the back patio and front porch. I got back home about 8:45. Shortly thereafter the rains and storms started. We got a nice rain, not much wind, and just enough lightening and thunder to make it enjoyable.

Food was good...had eggs and bacon for breakfast, BLT and fried zucchini (pork rind breading) for lunch, and chicken, green beans, and brussels sprouts for dinner. I also had almost 12,000 steps for the day, which made me happy.

Well, that's about all the news that's fit to print from my corner of the world...hope all is well in your's!

TTFN!!

~Stef~

Today I am grateful for:

1. ...that the windows were down and the critter didn't decide to tear through the convertible top to get inside.

2. ...that is was the back seat rather than the front.

3. ...that it was only one seat

4. ...that mom's doctor appointment went well

5. ...for a hubby that thinks I am a good woman, even though I know I'm not.

Oh Stef that is horrible. I am so sorry and you love that car and 500 is so much money. Hopefully you can locate one at a wreckers. It's just one thing after another isn't it? Happy news for your mom!! Great job on those steps. Oh and Stef we finally found a wonderful church here in Tampa after searching for months. I am so happy about it. Try to relax today and not think about those critters or the car. We both know it will work out. Just you wait and see.

Stef, a critter did this? Wonder what kind of animal does something like that? Hope you find another seat for not too much money. I am sorry that happened to you. Looks as though the rest of your day was a good one, love your attitude. Have a wonderful day today!

Can't you claim the damage on your car insurance? Or, perhaps yo have a deductible and it all comes out the same. Yes, I have seen raccoons do that kind of damage when they get inside somewhere and then panic!

Wow what a mess it made. It had to be an animal small enough to get in the window but strong enough to bend the frame.

Raccoons would be my guess too! They look so cute but are really very destructive.

Oh my. I bet the heat wouldn't have done that much damage. My money is on the raccoons too. I see you are busy, busy as usual. Then again could have been a small bear if it bent the frame. Don't know how remote you are - but here it has been known to happen.

Cathy, I am just going to wait to replace it until I find one at a salvage yard. I do love that car, and it really upset me. I am so happy that you finally found a church home...that is awesome!!! I have lots of chores to do today, but I am not going to sweat the seat anymore. No one rides back there anyway, right? lol Have a great day, Cathy.

Gigi, I suspect a coon or bobcat, although I think the bobcat would have sprayed, if it was a male. Then of course there are the black bears, but I think they would have torn up more than one seat. I am just glad that there wasn't more damage. Have an awesome day, Gigi!

HCB, my deductible is $1000, so no help there. I suspect a coon or bobcat. The windows were all the way down, but I suppose they could have thought they were trapped in there. There wasn't any food in the car, and hadn't been, so not sure what attracted them to just that seat. Have a good day, my friend!

FOL, yes, it did, but then I thought that perhaps a black bear had reached through and shredded it. On some of the pieces you can see where the nails punctured the seat and then ripped. And since the frame is bent, it would have to be something strong. Have a great day!

Karen, we live out, and it's funny, I had just watched a local news report about the bears in our local area and the cameras they have been attaching to watch what they do. One of the cameras came off, the bear walked on about 100 feet, paused, then turned around and came back to the camera and attacked it! Then I went out and found this...how weird is that? I also thought about the bear, or a coon or bobcat. They can all do a lot of damage. Have a wonderful day!

Cathy, they are all cute, but they can do soooo much damage. SIGH...

WOW!!! They really did a number on it! Nature never ceases to amaze me. At least you were able to find the gratitude in all that, I know sometimes it can be really tough. Hope today is going better for you!!

Gee Stef that is a critter with some serious angst!! Like you say at least it is the back and he didn't like the taste enough to keep going through the other ones!!

Oh - your poor poor baby! Glad you shared that because I have leather seats too - another reason to keep my windows up.

OMG Stef!!!! I can't imagine what did that! Is the front of the seat all messed up or the back? I can see something digging at the back ... looking for something. That is some picture!!!! (((YOU NEED THIS HUG!!!!!)))

Oh I have seen awful damage done by sweet critters. I just showed a house that a squirrel had, had a party in there was hardly a window sill and door frame that hadn't been chewed. Knew it was a squirrel due to the muddy footprints in the tub. I would have been upset as well....

Wow Stef, was that a bear..if so you be careful and keep the animals in at night..thats alot of damage..hope you can find what your looking for..HUGS..:O)

Lisa, today has been much better, thanks! I found a replacement for the bottom of the seat and it is being shipped to my house. The color doesn't match, but I will cover it and it will be just fine! At least it's a seat, right?

Tracy, I am so glad it was just the back seat. The front ones are electirc and would be a fortune to replace. And yes he had some serious angst! Have a great evening!!
