Ten things you didn't know about me (until now): (Just a silly journal entry for today after yesterday’s Deep Thoughts)
1. I can tie cherry stems in knots with my tongue. That so-called “talent” got me a call-back to a British dating game TV show (I ended up not going because I had travel plans).
2. My first name is Heidi Joy – Joy used to be my middle name, but when I got married I took my husband’s last name, moved my former surname to my middle name, and made my middle name part of my first name. So now I’m Heidi Joy from Happy Valley (off Sunnyside Road). Sorry to my Atkin’s buddies – I think that’s so sugar-coated it put you over your carb limit for the day!
3. I met my hubby on eHarmony and I’m a huge proponent of online dating, despite many disastrous dates. I had given up on meeting men via online dating sites, but my husband intrigued me because he used to play professional blackjack (see the book Bringing Down the House or the movie 21 for half-true stories about his team). DH is now a never-gambling professor, but his stories from back in grad school are awesome.
4. I’m an avid reader, going through a book or two each week. Recently, I’ve read: Steve Jobs, Fifty Shades, Blood, Bones & Butter, and Titanic Thompson: The True Story of the Man Who Bet On Everything. The Steve Jobs book reminded me that I would rather be known for being kind, generous and loving than a genius @$$hole. Fifty Shades is proof that (like dessert) more is not necessarily better. I really appreciate excellent writing, which is why I’d recommend the last two wholeheartedly.
5. The two pictures where I feel most beautiful were both taken in the hospital, shortly after the birth of my children. I am glowing in them, and also heavier than I am now.

6. I like drinking soda for the texture of bubbles on my tongue, so my favorite is now Talking Rain (no carbs, calories, sugar, artificial sweetener, caffeine or sodium—just lovely fizz with a hint of fruit oil essence for flavor). I also love all kinds of iced tea; my favorite is an Arnold Palmer made with pink lemonade and Earl Gray.
7. I’m a night owl, a cat person, prefer white to red, crunchy over creamy, fries over dessert, being too cold over being too hot, spending money on experiences rather than things, and I adore the color orange (especially burnt orange).
(Above: My mad skillz in the kitchen... monkey and snake pancakes for Drew after his broken arm last summer.)
8. After being a newspaper reporter for seven years, writing about politics, corruption and (cry) too many dead or dying children and horrible tragedies, I avoid most news and blood-and-gore “entertainment.” Give me a rom-com or a great heist movie and I’m happy. Give me Facebook and funny details about my friends’ lives rather than the latest house fire on Channel 6.
9. I really and truly believe that marriage is a sacred AND the sole responsibility to protect the “sanctity of marriage” lies with me—being faithful to DH and our vows. I want gay people to have the same rights that my husband and I do under the law. While some religions won’t marry gay people on religious grounds, it’s also true that some religions would refuse to marry my husband and me! That doesn’t make my marriage less valid, nor should it for my gay friends.

10. If I could choose any other job, I would produce Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, run the Next Food Network Star show or The Pitch, be Chief Brainstormer at an international ad agency, or be a coach and public speaker on career development. I’m working on that last one and have a major public speaking gig lined up for mid-September.
BONUS: My alternate-universe BFFs are: Stana Katic, Beryl Markham (first person to cross the Atlantic by plane east to west), Julia Child, Drew Barrymore and Eleanor Roosevelt.
P.S. A “Kardashian” is a unit of measure representing 72 days of marriage. Want to know how many “Kardashians” you have been married? Try this calculator: I have been married 25.25 Kardashians!
(Our 5th anniversary is coming up Aug. 18!)
Friends, are you willing to share at least one thing we don't (yet) know about you? The sillier or more outrageous the better!! (-: Let's get some smiles going this Wednesday.

Hmmm, lovely journal, today, Heidi Joy:-)....we disagree on some things, but I love the way you write, and I think we can be friends, anyway :-) ;-) Oh, and PS, your pictures are wonderful! You ARE glowing in that first one...motherhood agrees with you, I can just tell!

Thanks, Baxie! I'm sure I wouldn't agree with anyone on everything (even my spouse... oh, political discussions in our house are BAAAAD news)... but I treasure open-minded friends who cheerfully agree to disagree or find common ground elsewhere. And with my buddies, I have a LOT of common ground in the health/fitness/motivation arena!

I love, love, love this journal entry. I can't stop smiling and my co-workers are getting suspicious! It's a slow day at the office so, pish-posh! I have been married 52.47 Kardashians. Let's see... one thing y'all don't know about me yet... I used to work on top secret software development for the military. It was very rewarding but got boring after a while because things don't change very often or very fast in the government, hehe. It gave me a much better appreciation for the necessity of the military and the sacrifices that our service men and women make to keep us safe.

Love this journal! I have been married 75.13 Kardashians, lol. Something you don't know about me: My first name is Sundown. . .I was named after the Gordon Lightfoot song "Sundown". My parents claim they weren't hippies, but I'm not sure I'm buying it :)

Hahahah! Skirch/Sundown, that's fabulous. My folks wanted to have three little girls named Heidi Joy, Holly Faith and Hailey Hope. They did it with us first two, but then a boy came along and PTL he was not named Harvey Happiness or something awful. Alan Nelson rounds out the tribe of three siblings. (-; My folks were kind of religious hippies, known for going to the church where they'd take you no matter how you *smelled*. Ha!

Too funny... my oldest Aunt is Faith and they wanted 3 girls Faith, Hope and Joy. Ended up they changed their minds byt #2 but did have 3 girls. My mom's name is Carol but it was between that and Lucy. She's happy withtheir choice but I kinda like Lucy :-)

I have been married for 36.43 Kardashians. My parents have been married for 173.32 Kardashians! :)
Something silly about me...I'm terrified of bears! It is a crazy phobia to have, I know, but I can't help it. My friends think it is hilarious--shortly after I moved to KY, I carried a very long sharpened stick in my car for protection! LOL, it's silly now, but I thought it would protect me then!

A lot of Faith's! My daughter is Savannah Faith. Son is William Robert. But I had a lot of crazy name ideas for kids, since mine is so different thought my kids needed to be too, good thing Bob (hubby) talked me into the good names we have :)

Two great journal entries in a row; I like your style. I'm also a voracious reader, mostly fiction. I'm addicted to Carole Nelson Douglas; just received her latest Midnight Louie book (pre-ordered & auto delivered to my Kindle) and am making myself finish my current book before immersing my self in Cat in a White Tie and Tails.

What about me is news??? I also met my husband online via eHarmony.com and after our first date we were inseparable - eight years married on an October 31st so we celebrate Halloween BIG! My first career was classical musician performing in symphony orchestras, and I cry at sappy Christmas movies.

Fun journal! Something most people don't know about me is that I can do plumbing, need a toilet changed or repaired, I'm your gal. Also I am a good shot with my .22 rifle. Something crazy about me, I'm scared of the dark so when hubby travels this place is lit up like it's noon outside. Oh I totally agree with #6 I love soda for the bubbles!
