Finally! I've got pictures to share. I figured out how to properly size things so they don't get wonky on FatSecret.
Yesterday I had a great birthday - had to take little man Drew to swim lessons but then Derek made me blackberry cobbler (and picked all the blackberries yesterday) and I had the champagne a friend gave me. My sister, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and niece were over, too. Here's Drew "fishing" for some fabric fish my mom made on our deck last night (he dumped them in a baby pool):

I'm not quite ready with before and after pix, but here's a couple of interesting pix to compare. This is me and Audrey at the beach at the end of May. Oy, the fat face (but Audrey is darling):

Now rewind to age 27 (nine years ago; about a year before I met my hubby) and also it's a rewind of about 50-60 pounds. I was about 165 in this photo (my goal is 153, healthy BMI for my 5'6" frame):

Obviously, I'm not stick-skinny in this pic, but I love it and this is about where I want to be at the end of my journey in terms of my body's size and shape. (The hot blonde is my friend Stephanie.)
The main way I'm tracking my progress is via FatSecret - I find that weigh-in chart SO SO Satisfying to look at! Another thing I'm doing is that I have these two little jars on the kitchen counter, just behind the sink. Every time I lose a pound, I take one of the glass beads from the "to go" cup and put it in the "gone" cup. There are now 20 (!! yay !!) in the "gone" cup and 50 left in the "to go" cup.

Finally, especially for PosterChild66's edification (since he always lists his kitty as something he's grateful for), I wanted to add a picture of my office mate, Pekoe. She's 8, kind of a pain (she wants to be petted, then wants to bite), but since I work from home I really love having a little creature in my space:

Thanks so much for sharing pics. You look happy and beautiful in all of them. I wish you could see yourself through the eyes of your Buddies. I think you would be surprised how good you look now, not just 9 years ago. The glasses are a great idea; an everyday visual reminder of your progress. Have a great day Heidi. :)

That bead idea is neato! And I love the kitty pics. Ours bites too, but only when she is super comfy, as if we are bugging her. The nerve! I like the rewind pics, wife and I do that too, and people ask us "Who are those people!?" Back when I had hair and such.

Love the idea of the jars. Visual reminders are SO powerful....I will be absconding with this idea!! You look fabulous. And the joy with which you live life is evident not just in your name, and your writing, but also in your face...then and now.

You can never go wrong by ending with a cat photo, that's for sure. I love the bead and glasses idea. The action of moving the bead is such a small thing, but I'm sure you are elated everytime you do it. Happy birthday and keep up the good work!

Yup - you can never go wrong with a cat photo! My cats are my children. I have two Bengal cats that are very very handsome and smart! (See, I will brag about them anytime given the chance.) One of teh Bengals is a registered Therapy Pet who walks pn a leash, fetches, rides in the Miata and is an all around smarty pants!
|
OMG - HCB, you are the funniest! I love Therapy Pets! (Alas, Pekoe doesn't have the disposition for it.) I actually had a seatbelt for my 50lb yellow beagle/lab mix when I had my black Miata ('99) and she was my copilot. But she wasn't that smart. My cat Slinky (the first cat; Pekoe is the second) knew all sorts of tricks like opening doors and drawers, stealing and hiding small objects like earrings under the dining room rug, and she'd eat the tops off of muffins if given an opportunity.

Years ago we had a cat who walked on a leash. We used to go fishing on the breakwater, and she would sit on the rocks with us while we fished.
One day while walking through the pier area on the way back to our car, we were stopped by a man who pointed to our cat at the end of the leash and asked, "Wow. What kind of animal is that?"
We replied, "Uh, well, er, um... a cat."

I knew a girl years ago who trained her cat to walk on a leash so she could take him on the beach...had forgotten all about that. It struck such a funny note at the time, because all the cats I had ever known would never have "stooped" to such behavior...no offense guys, but you cat lovers SURELY know how cats can be (they own US not the other way around, lol)...Anyway, the "craziest" cats I've ever known have always been calicos...not sure why, but they have some very funny, and quite entertaining personality traits that I've not seen in others.
