I went to the gym today and found I lost 2 more pounds - this was just what I needed to see. I did the elliptical and was able to run .75 mile. I feel like I am gradually getting back to where I was. It wasn't even a plateau - I just gained ten pounds unexplicably - from the start of my period last month and they haven't gone back down. I am worried about my period this month, if I will gain another 8 to 10 pounds. I guess that's too much TMI, especially for the men. Oh well. I am getting ready to battle my doctors, and I have to brace for it. I have to do something about the hair loss. I go to see the psych nurse on Wednesday, and I am going to put my foot down about the Lithium. Then I've also decided to go off of Lipitor, which is probably going to infuriate my PCP. So be it. I am on two drugs which cause hair loss, I'm having terrible hair loss, and I WANT OFF. I have absolutely no one that I can turn to. My parents are TERRIBLE about doctors - they think that doctors are GOD and unfallible. I think they just want me to stay on drugs that are treating my other symptoms well, but they don't want to deal with the hair loss. If my psych nurse says that the hair loss is due to my weight loss, I am going to be furious. My PCP kind of hinted at that. Such BULLSHIT. I lost 70 pounds 12 years ago on the Atkins diet - talk about crappy nutrition - and didn't have any problems with hair loss. I am so angry that doctors try to blame crap on other things because they don't want to take any risks.

I hear that KMart ! I assume you know there are alternatives to lithium that I suppose you have tried. Depakote. Abilify. Lamictal. Tegretol. Trileptal, Geodon. See a different doctor or psych nurse if they don't listen to you. And you are right, hair loss is a side effect of lithium - not a real common one - but can be a side effect. Hang in there!

You are a rockstar with the running! You will be at a mile in no time!! I am glad that you will be putting your foot down with the doctors- maybe it is time for a second opinion? Good luck, you will be in my thoughts!
