DairyKing's Journal, 11 July 2012

Up at 3:45, out the door by 4:00. Puddles, puddles everywhere. Rain, hallelujah! Ran 2.4 miles in it; most of it just tinkling and sprinkling. Quit just before the skies opened up. I'm entirely grateful for the rain. However, it is already gone, and it's going to be 91F today. The news said we are in the worst drought since 1988. So, unlike some in our state, and especially in the south, at least I got some.

Ran at a 12:30ish pace; finished up atop a hill. Could have gone farther, but I was starting to feel a little sluggish and getting kind of wet anyway. The 65F temp felt very good though!

Vacation starts on July 28th, and lasts for two weeks. It's really not my favorite time of the year for vacation - too darn hot. But, that's when our factory shuts down for routine maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, roadways, cranes, hoists, etc. It's the best time, for people that do what I do, to take vacation. We probably won't go anywhere, except for one or two day excursions. We have pets, and even though we have people that will feed them for us, it's rough on some of them when we're gone, and DW won't be done with chemo until about a week after vacation is over anyway. Then she starts radiation therapy. There are some good opportunities for a day or two trip on the bike, right here in Illinois. We took a 1900 mile round trip, on the bike, out to the Smokey Mountains in N.C. about 3 years ago, and we loved the trip (even though it was mid 90's all the way out and back, except for up in the mountains, which was cool and beautiful). We're hoping to be able to do something like that again next year.

Well, didn't do all that well on the diet yesterday, but it usually takes getting back into the exercising to kick-start it again. And I did that this morning. It's kind of like our romantic relationships: we have a blowout, then we get to kiss and make up. Well, with my dieting, I blow it out my a$$, then I get to suck it up, and start afresh. Instead of a kiss, I get wet all over (don't get all excited; I'm talking about sweating here!).

Well, FS Friends, have a great and wonamous day! Toodles.

Glad you got to enjoy the rain and cooler weather. This may come off all wrong but - maybe you can use your time off to work on your diet. Really, it is very time consuming to plan menus, shop, prep fresh veggies, etc. But I find when I spend the time to plan I get results (because when I don't I end up eating "whatever").

No, Buffy, I don't think your comment comes off wrong. I think it's a good idea. Most of the time, DW is amenable to my suggestions concerning diet - if I wait for the right moment - otherwise, she can get pretty defensive. If she's not onboard with it, then the evening meal becomes my nemesis. We will work on it. She has quite a sweet tooth, and an addiction to cream soda (not the diet kind either). What I'm trying to say is this: she usually is pretty accommodating when it comes to my food preferences, but the cupboards are still going to be stocked with a lot of tempting goodies.

We need rain here as well, glad you could enjoy it this morning. All we can do when we slip is recognize what's causing it and just get back on the horse and it's hard with all those goodies!!

1900 miles, DK? Are we talking motorcycle or bicycle? Wow, in any case. Just hoping next vacation it's less hot and all the cancer stuff is behind you guys. Hugs to DW (and to you for that very good run this am).

Haha, Heather! Motorcycle. I only know one person who would attempt such a thing on a bicycle. Guess who that might be?

hot and dry here too. I'd take a rain. my landlord is being stingy with the lawn watering. It's half-brown now. "get wet all over" I love a good innuendo.

See I thought it was a bicycle also..lol I was thinking holy moly that's a ton of miles. Then when I read your comment of motocycle I though wow that must have been relaxing. It's amazing what my brain does when a motor gets involved. Glad you guys got some rain. We've been rain-less for awhile now and it's driving me nuts but since my youngest is allergic to most things we stay indoors a ton so the air conditioner is nice. Enjoy your vacation!

Haha, DK. Holy moly indeed, Diana. No idea who that would be, DK. And btw, what does wonamous mean?
11 Jul 12 by member: Helewis
Wonamous is a lazy cajun way of saying 'wonderful' and 'fabulous' at the same time. Duh! :)

Have a wonderful vacation! I know *just* what you mean about having the DW (or in my case, DH) on board with diet... Derek tends to shop for chips and ice cream when he does the run to the store. I was thinking: what projects do you have that you'd like to tackle on vacation? Maybe a major clean-out of a garage or the like? I love to have spare time at home for that stuff... and it always puts me in a fresh mindset to keep going on my health and fitness goals.

I've always got sweets at my disposal too with kids and hubby. It's tough to resist. Nice run in the rain! I enjoy that too if it's not pouring out.

Well, Heidi, I have a few projects that I need to work on: Building about 6 more base cabinets, and 10 wall cabinets w/doors and drawers for the kitchen, install gymnasium lighting - which covers 6000 sq ft, install the Endless Pool downstairs, finish the outdoor playground for the kids, install the new raked front end on the trike, install french drains around the foundation for water runoff, rebuild the stage in the gym, install outdoor lighting around the schoolhouse and the gym, install a 200 Amp electrical service for the gym, install lighting and ceiling fans in the kitchen, and paint the kitchen/family/dining room. I have other projects, but I doubt I will get to them. I am thinking that an outdoor excursion or two will take precedence over a couple of these projects. I'll probably turn some pens, and do some welding in my spare time, just for a hoot.
