Draglist's Journal, 23 April 2014

Back home after another trip to Ohio, this time for my cousin's funeral. But we enjoyed visiting with family during Easter, too, and had other fun celebrations. The funeral was sad, of course, but a chance to catch up with our remaining loved ones, many of whom we have not seen for years. Of course, tons of food was involved in all activities and I partook heavily.

Today was a travel day and ended up being a pretty big eating day despite that. Dropped brother Tim off in Annapolis and stopped to see his new boat (on which he lives -- lucky guy). We then went for seafood at the local haunt. Then foolishly snacked at home. But now my overeating has to be OVER.

I actually felt the weight going on over the past several days. My dress trousers were tight at the funeral. Two weeks ago I was ready to take them into the tailors to be taken in at the waist. The extra water from all the carbs has seeped into every available fat cell and has plumped me back up. It's plainly visible. And plainly visible on the scale... 233 lbs.! Crazy. I know it's not all fat, but it sure is a hell of a lot of carb overload-induced water gain. About 15-20 lbs. worth, by my calculation... look at the Tanita numbers below for some surprising results.

I had a very hard time on my seven hour car trip today because I had to stop to pee every 30 minutes to an hour as my body tried to rid itself of all that extra water. I hope it's an emergency whoosh effect, but I fear it was my body hitting a massive blood sugar limit and using fluids to get the extra insulin out of me. That happened before when I was very heavy and diagnosed as Type 2... I did go overboard this past week on the sweets and not being able to function more than ten feet away from a bathroom is payment for that practice. Hoping that getting back on track this week will knock that out.

Here are the 4/23/14 Tanita Numbers (post-dinner, post five day mini-vacation with massive overeating and no workouts):

Weight - 233.0 (up 29 lbs. in two weeks)
Goal Weight (10% BF) - 223.8 (this is a joke! Skewed by the extra water)
Total body fat % - 13.6 (all-time low number, but skewed by the extra water)
Total body fat lbs. - 31.6 (amazing that my actual body fat has not increased... it's all water at this point)
Total body water % - 67.2 (all-time high, and my body's trying to get rid of it)
Visceral fat rating - 9
Muscle mass lbs. - 191.6 (this is a comically high number, 15-20 lbs. higher than normal. All the water in the muscle tissue is skewing this)
Physique rating - 6
Bone mass lbs. - 9.8 (another all-time high, skewed by the water percentage)
Daily calories: 4781 (RDI 2686) (all-time highs, skewed by water...)
Metabolic age - 14 (all-time low, no doubt also skewed by the crazy water percentage in me. But based on all the goodies I ate, I ACTED like I was 14!)

If It Fits Your Macros numbers (all numbers in grams, rounded):
My targets: 70 fat, 107 carbs, 41-52 fiber, 200 protein, 1858 cals
Today ate: 246 fat, 516 carbs, 51.7 fiber, 128 protein, 4984 cals
Running avg: 117 fat, 267 carbs, 158 protein, 2858 cals

Did not record daily macros for the past five days, but they were just about as bad as this each day. I notice that I am actually 1000 calories per day on average MORE than I wanted to target this month. At this point, I'll be happy to even out my calorie burn with my calories eaten. Some hard lessons learned and we'll target a better last week of April and month of May.
233.0 lb Lost so far: 92.0 lb.    Still to go: 28.0 lb.    Diet followed poorly.

Holy crap Bill. When you do it, you do it big. Loving the metabolic age. 14. And I was impressed when you were in your 20's. HOWEVER, and that's a big however, you'll get back on track and get rid of it immediately. Then probably drop a few more. Happy to know you all made it home safely.

And to you I tip my hat. For acknowledging water, bloating and women. All in the same sentence. It's a curse.

Hang in there Bill! We know you will swing it all around. Had my problems with carbs the last two weeks. Road trip, holiday, staying with people and had to eat the food they served (carb heavy). It's amazing although we are no where near how heavy we were it affects us so much. I feel so large and fat and flabby... but i think its just bloating mostly. We will do this!!

You'll make the feature page when all that rest of that fluid wooshes off. I never thought of frequent urination being affected to blood sugar. Interesting to research as I often joke I have the bladder of a 96 year old woman but I thought it was because I drink a gallon of water a day. No way you gained actual 29lbs in two weeks. It'll probably be gone w/in a week.
