Question Hi all I have just started a 'calorie-controlled' eating plan but confusion reigns .... whilst I am trying to count calories, I see that food labels refer to either kj's (kilojoules) or kilo-calories. Does anyone know the difference, and, if so, how do you convert calories into kilojoules or kilo-calories. After all, they are all units of energy. Many thanks, all the best to you all.

What most people call calories are actually Kilocalories or Kcal. So if you are following a 1500 calorie a day diet, it's actually a 1500 kilocalorie a day diet.

Kilojoules are simply a different system for measuring energy (similar to Celsius and Fahrenheit for heat). A different metric for the same thing.

1 Kcal = 4.184 Kj
