Absolutely not. A 2,000 calorie deficit per day is not healthy. Unless you are being monitored by a doctor during this it is not good for the long term. You're not getting enough protein and most likely not enough vitamins and other nutrients as well. Just because you're hair and nails are great right now you won't see the long term effects until they have grown out more (give it about a month or two). You should be getting at least 1200 calories a day and somewhere upwards of 80g of protein. With the deficit you mention you should be losing a lot more than 2 pounds every week... so I would take that as an indication that your body is not responding well to it.

I would advise you to eat a little more. 1000 calories is low - 1200 is usually the lowest that's recommended. We're about the same size - my RDI is 1800, but I've been working to keep it at 1500-1600 plus exercising more.
The amount of calories you're eating is working now, but it won't last. You'll plateau and the weight loss will stop. You're body will think it's starving and will hold on to every precious pound. Take it from someone who's experienced it!

The whole june i prepared my body for a diet. I didn't eat candy and chips and had a light dinner so i took in less calories. I didn't go from eating 3500 calories to 650-950 in a day. I'm on this diet 51 days. My lunch a fruit salad is about 450 grams heavy and i eat about 100-400 grams of veggetables for breakfast + some protein. That's a lot of food. And for dinner fruit or a weight loss shake. I heard about a platou, never had it before. Will see

While you are probably meeting micronutrient values with all of the fruits and vegetables in your diet you are definitely not getting a proper amount of protein or fat. The pound of fruit that you are having for lunch is full of sugar. Cut out the weight loss shakes and diet drinks to lower the amount of chemicals you are consuming and add in more lean meat and eggs. Even on a low calorie diet you need to be eating balanced meals. Your body will not be able to handle this diet for a long period of time and you may permanently damage your metabolism in the long run.

Personally, I'd throw in some more lean protein at lunch and dinner. Protein's the building block of all cells in the body, don't skimp out on em. Essential Fats coming from natural sources are also necessary. I'd also have a small snack in between meals, like some almonds some other kind of natural edible. If you eat natural foods, you'll naturally become full and counting calories becomes unnecessary. Some people say calories in-calories out blah blah blah, but it really is quality over quantity.
Stay the course, stay on point, stay motivated, dedicated, and you won't be stopped. Discipline. Perseverance. Focus. Dig deep and you will be victorious.

I eat proteins everyday for breakfast, that has been always the most important meal of the day for me. I drink a few cups of diet drinks, eat small amounts of candy and chips every week. I don't miss out on anything. I feel full all day. I eat a lot but low calorie products. I feel really healthy, if someting would change i would change up my diet. I'm not crazy LOL

yes, you do eat proteins for breakfast... however you are not getting enough protein in your diet with just 30-40g.
If you think you're not crazy for your diet then why did you even ask anyone if we thought it wasn't healthy? Sounds like you're questioning something about it.
As I mentioned before, for the amount of calorie deficit you claim you're creating you are not losing at nearly the pace you should. Which makes me think that there is something very unhealthy going on. You should be losing about 4 pounds a week with a 2k deficit 7 days a week.

I never ate more proteins than this, this is normal for me.I could never do atkins.I always prefer to eat dairy products than meat. I will add some nuts and milk in my diet and add some more calories in my diet with that. In 52 days now i lost 27.5 lbs. In the beginig it was faster. I'm happy with the pace now, sometimes it's 3 or 4 pounds a week, depends on how much i walk, usually it's about 2 pounds. It's always good to hear opinions of other people. Other than my walking for 1.5 hours 4-6 times a week,3 times a week riding a bicycle for 20 mins and my exercising 45 mins a day i have a sedetery life style

have you always eaten that much fruits? you know, if i see your calorie breakdown from most days, you eat mostly carbs, just a little fat and sometimes even less protein. protein is important not only for your cells but for your muscles, too! you don't have a balanced nutrition, which you should have been doing. even if you are 52 days on that diet, for me the way you do it doesn't sound healthy at all. many people say that a healthy diet is if i just eat healthy things. but there is more the body needs. have ever measured your body? i mean....body fat, muscles and so on? it would be interesting to know if the pounds you lost were fat or muscles....

Hi Joelae, i addore fruits and dairy products. Before my diet that was all i ate plus junk food and sweets. My blood preassure was elevated so i needed to drop some weight and it worked. Now it's perfect. Before i didn't exercise at all so i had no muscels exept the ones you need to move LOL. Now i can feel muscels all over my body.I exercise every region that i can think of. They are still hidden under my fat but i feel much more stronger, have lots of energy. I feel great. I ask myself and other people if this diet is healty only because i read that i don't take in enough calories. If i never counted them i wouldn't have any conserns. I feel hunger, than i eat, feel full. And that 3 times a day, sounds like a normal metabolism to me. Isn't it? If i would feel ill i would definetly even more increase my calorie intake. I already did this morning. My goal is to lose weight and stay as healthy as possible.

Hi Snow833; checked your profile out, and it appears we shared the same starting point. You are doing good, but it is a long journey, and your body needs to adapt - it is slower than your mind!
To chip in on the diet question : definitely you need to INCREASE your PROTEINS intake, from natural foods. Suggestion would also be to STOP those diet drinks / weight loss shakes; you do not need that.
I was like you before : hardly any proteins, surviving on processed sugary foods, which gave me a boost of energy to get going. It seems that you are replacing the bad sugars...with healthier ones, with all the fruit you're eating daily! But it might be excessive. The amount of food you eat is a lot, and I can understand that you feel full after each meal; so why not try to balance each meal by replacing a few pieces of fruit by some lean meat, fish, or low fat cheese ?
Good luck on this great challenge!

I think you are subsidizing your nutrients with the diet shakes which are probably keeping your health up. People are raving about proteins to you which is very pro atkins for rapid went loss by reducing carbs. All i would suggest is trying to balance your intakes with perhaps grilled chicken or a ham omlette and maybe some fish. I agree that the diet is not sustainable as the weight might come off but once the diet stops it will probably come back. Dropping calories in the extreme is ok for a kick start but then its back to a balanced diet. A last comment would be to watch your teeth eating that much fruit as it might start to thin the enamel over time...good luck with it all

I could never do atkins, i eat proteins everyday just not in large amounts. I will achieve my goal in 2013, i'm aware that it's a long journey but i don't mind. I drink diet drinks only a few times a week, it's a really hot summer here so i reather drink that then to eat ice cream. I will stay on fatsecret even when i achieve my goal weight to mentain it. Than i'll have to figure out what's the optimum amount of calories to not gain any weight but not to lose it either. I'll cross that bridge when i come to it
I go to my dentist on regular check ups, i only eat fruit salads ones or twice a day so i don't think i'll have any problems. I'll eat more cheese from now on to increase my proteins. How do vegetarians do it? I don't like meat and fish that much.

almonds do have a lot of proteins, as have beans, soy, tofu. there are different websites with great recipes for vegetariens who want to have a high protein nutrition.
you eat a lot of fruits. but as i've seen, no veggies. it is recommended to eat more veggies than fruits per day. veggies usually have more proteins and other nutrients who are important for your body. to have a healthy lifestyle you should eat 5 portions "greens" a day: 3 portions (of around 120g) veggies, and 2 portions of fruits.

I always eat vegetables for breakfast, from 100 to 400grams a day. I eat that instead of bread. That was in my first post. I try to eat as healthy as possible but i also have some treats otherwise it would be very dificult for me to be on a diet at all. I'll eat almonds

I would eat all the raw fruits and veggies you want and not even worry about it, but would try to include some super nutrients amongst them: spinach and broccoli on the veggie side and blueberries and raspberries on the fruit side. I would strive to get a good balance of omega-3 in your fat; it will come naturally if you use olive oil and eat nuts and seeds (especially flax), better yet eat wild fish if you can. Like many have said before me, protein is the key here. I would certainly shoot for at least body weight in pounds divided by 2 for the number of grams. I would eat some protein at every meal. You need to find one that you really like. Non-fat Greek yogurt is a great one and also tuna. I would spread your food out on the day, eating every 2-3 hours if you can. And remember, the scale does not matter too much but the inches around the waist count the most. Oh yeah, and drink LOTS of water, all day.

I am not sure what is the point of asking other people opinion when you have clearly already made up your mind.
RDI stands for Recommended Daily Intake and you are constantly below 30% of your RDI which already takes into account an healthy calories deficit for fat loss if you input your data correctly.
What else is there to add? It is clear that your level of calories intake is unhealthy in the long term as it is that you do not feel that way, let's just hope for you that you will not find out the hard way.
Best of luck...

I don't think that is what any of us are saying. If you are following any balanced low-calorie diet the protein should be higher, even with carbs added. My diet consists of aprox 40-50% carbs but my protein intake is still well over 80g.
