It is SO HARD to get motivated! Especially with my live-in boyfriend who loves fast food and pizza. Plus, he doesn't think I can lose the weight I want to so he doesn't help me. *sigh*. I really need to kick myself in the butt to get moving!

Read through some journals and I am sure you will find many of us that have trouble with motivation. What motivated me was my doctor telling me I had to lose weight or live with the pain in my knee (arthritis). Since I have started this journey, I no longer experience the pain in my knee, so it was well worth it. I am enjoying the fact that I am healthier and have a lot more energy now too. You need to find what motivates you and do it for yourself! You can lose the weight if you want to regardless of others. This app has helped me tremendously and even when I reach my goal weight (which I will!) I will still be here to keep myself healthy for good. Now get your butt moving

Thank you! I just downloaded the app and I'm ready to get going. I have Jillian Michael's dvd's so I'm going to try them out. I hear she's a butt kicker!

Wow. Sounds like a nice, motivating boyfriend... NOT. How dare he not believe in you? Maybe the first many pounds you should lose is... him?

My husband was/is the same way when I started. He is the junk food champ. He eats zingers for breakfast and washes them down with pepsi. No joke...lol He hasn't changed much but I don't give two hoots. You take charge of the kitchen and buying the food. If you buy the food, cook the food, you control your diet. Just keep it in your head what your goal is and why you are changing. Nothing can stop you unless you let it.
Don't be afraid of hitting the buddy request button on my page. =) I'm always looking to meet new people and make new friends.

How annoying to have junk food around! Not to mention an unsupportive partner. Is he afraid you'll be out of his league if you lose weight and he doesn't?

I completely agree. I've been heavy for a good portion of my life and I'm getting ready for my second knee surgery. (High tibial osteomotomy, where they will break part of my tibia and insert a bone wedge to force it from going bowlegged to knock-kneed).
It is going to have a long, painful recovery, and I did this to myself with my poor eating habits and lack of exercise when I was a teen and a young adult. I wish I knew then what I know now, but it is never too late to change your life and decide to become healthier, happier, and kinder to yourself.
Every time I want to binge, or skip a workout, I imagine what it would be like to have to have a total knee replacement before the age of 40. I want too much out of life to stay unhealthy. You should want more, too!
Good luck!

I'd also search "motivation" under forums search.

I agree with Diana1096. My husband is the same way. I take control of the kitchen..I buy all the grocery and clean out the pantry every week. Yesterday he bought a dozen of glazed donuts. That donut box accidentally fell into the garbage can. He shook his head and smiled. I guess he will not waste his money on that stuff again!

not a supportive boyfriend sayin that so why don't u prove it to him that you can. We are in control of what foods we decide to eat or what exercise to do. I mean, the support helps, but bottom line is we are responsible for following up on our goals, or not. we can't blame the boyfriend or anyone else.

After I lost 40 lbs., my husband told me to keep my "fat clothes" in case I gained the weight back - what faith he had in me! I got rid of all of those clothes and after 8 years, I haven't had to buy any of it back. If your boyfriend doesn't want to be healthy, that's his choice. You're in control of your health as to what you eat, drink, etc. Just remind yourself every morning that you're doing this for yourself and no one else and that the behaviour of others [boyfriend or family] will not deter you from your goal.

I've lost about 30 lbs. (16% of my weight) over the last few years. I didn't cut out fast food. However, I keep raw and cooked frozen veggies and fruit around and I just had half the serving of fast food (half a burrito or half a hamburger and half the fries, or eventually a whole burger but no fries) and half a plate of freggies on many occasions. I put it all on my plate before I start eating and stop eating when the food is gone, or sometimes sooner when I get too full. I put the other food away before I eat so I am not looking at it. Other people's food is theirs, not mine.
I highly encourage you to stop talking about dieting or wanting to lose weight or whether food is healthy or not around your boyfriend. Enjoy every bite of the meals you do eat and find other things to talk about and do with your time. Put food in its place and expand your life! It's what all successful weight loss maintainers end up doing. You can, too, whether your boyfriend is bolstering you or not. In fact, he'll more likely follow after he sees how much more content and vibrant you become.

I like your post olala53.
Sometimes our partners dont want us to do our own thing because then we wont be by their side doing the things THEY enjoy doing. They will then have to eat pizza and fast food all by themselves. Sometimes its hard to say no to your lover, but at times my husband is feeling lazy and I want to go on a bike ride because I know I need to. He will say "oh i'm too tired today" then I will promptly reply "okay see ya" and get on my bike and take off on him. He will usually follow me on the bike ride anyways because he doesnt like the feeling of being left behind lol. Once he even showed up 5 minutes later peddaling his ass off to catch me. Men cannot stand the feeling of being left behind by a woman. Maybe its time to do some fun experimentation in your relationship and just start doing what YOU want to do

Years ago I weighed 220 pounds. I was about 33, tired and needed to make a change. So I declared that this was the last day I was going to be fat. My husband's response was to take us to McDonald's. When I said that wasn't very supportive, and drank my diet coke(that's it, I didn't eat that poison)he replied with, "We didn't make you fat, you did that all on your own. Why should we change what we like for you?" Other than the fact that I thought he was a huge @#$, and was realy hurt, I just stuck to my guns and lost the weight. After about 50 pounds he asked me if I was leaving him for another man. Yeah, right.
Then strangely enought he got on the boat and lost some weight himself, didn't complain about how we were eating, and started going to the gym. HMMMM....It's contagious.
After some medical problems I have gained some weight back and this time he is supportive and kind.
Don't let him be your Debbie Downer!!! Stay committed, and watch the changes happen. Love yourself today and everyday. Not dependant on a number on the scale, be kind to your body and it will reward you back.
I can do this. No matter how long it takes, I will not cave to the sugar devil lol.
