I was in the hospital for 4 months and just got out. The doctors want me to walk but I am having trouble walking in my house without a walker. Little alone walking around the block or going out to get the mail. I hurt so bad around my ankles and my feet. I really don't no what to do about this. I have tried everything I know to do. I can't even walk down streps or get up them. I have a fear of falling backwards or forwards without help. I do have a care-giver that helps a alot. I can't stand in one place without falling. Very hard to do housework also.

Your best bet is to consult your physician about this. Medical advice from people on the internet is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Having said that, if you need a walker then use it. Baby steps, as they say.

Yes, like Hoser said: baby steps. Start walking in place. When that becomes easy, start taking a step or two. When thats easy and not too painful, take a few more. Eventually you'll be walking again.

My mother had the same problem so we started off walking in the pool and now she's able to walk over a mile, on her own, outside of water.

Pool exercise seems to be good for anyone with mobility problems. Could you start by laying or sitting down and moving your legs? Flexing the muscles, bending your knees and ankles, and anything else that will help ease your muscles into more movement. Use the tools available to you, including your walker. You need to progress, but the last thing anyone wants is for you end up with more problems. Keep positive Smile

Do warm-ups and cool-downs count?
Honestly, I think it depends on what workout you're going with. I do cardio from a dvd with Denise Austin, and yes, I count the warm up and cool down... just because they feel like (together) they ...

Legs and Thighs
Have you found the exercise Brazil butt lift? I would like to gain tone but not build heavy, thick looking legs. Is this possible? Also need suggestions for upper body with the same philosophy.
