So in about a week me and my friends are going camping, which basically means no real food, only junk food and sweets. I don't want to risk my progress because of that. What should I do? I was thinking about buying some diet snacks but that also means unwanted calories and fat. Should I simply try to eat the least I can? If you have an idea, what I could do, please tell!
Thanks!

Go with your own "stash". Don't take "diet" food....take real food as much as you can. Not sure how long and if you will have a cooler etc. Canned tuna is a good staple, fruits that don't neccessarily need refrigeration, low sodium lean cold cuts, pre cut veggies, nuts (but watch portion and stick to raw unsalted), fiber one 90 cal bars, protien shakes, bottles of MIO to amp up your water, etc. Not all the healthiest but def options that are easy to pack and carry with you.
Big thing is to stay ACTIVE!!! That way when you do have a treat here and there with your friends just know that you will have worked it off. Go for hikes, swimming, volley ball or just a good couple of brisk walks a day will do wonders. Watch your portions and eat often (and filling fiber and protien as much as you can) to keep hunger away. But most of all LIVE and HAVE FUN!!! You can work it out

Thanks for the reply
Tuna sounds great and I will definitely take some fruit. I just hope everything goes well and that I won't be too depressed seeing them munching on high calorie snacks all day. I'll also try to be very active.

Better yet I forgot they have tuna pouches...no can opener
You can have some lol. Eat time you do just go do something! That's what I try for. Last week has been rough but just know that you have to treat yourself now and then...It's all in not over indulging and evening it out with a little extra work (easier said than done, I know).

Which is going to make you more depressed, not eating as many high calorie junk foods as your friends or coming back here after a week and seeing a weight gain/backtrack in progress? Your choice.. like thynes said, you have to live your life and be a normal person - it's just about the choices you make, not about depriving and "punishing" yourself. Camping does not have to = junk food. You have a whole week to plan out meals and active opportunities, you will be just fine!!!
Someone who is busier than you is working out right now.
There will come a day when you can no longer do this. Today is
not
that day.

Go! Have fun! Just make sure you are prepared. Its no different than everyone else. They pack chips, you pack carrot sticks and other cut up veggies. Keep an eye on things ( like eating open faced burgers and skipping half the bun) and enjoy yourself.

My husband just went camping.. I sent him with 1oz bags of nuts.. 1 for every day with his vitamins in there, loads of fresh fruit. I cooked lean hamburgers for the first day he was there, he took the 98% fat free hot dogs for a few of the other days, When he got there he bought eggs for hard boiling for breakfast. (we could have done that at home but he wanted to do it there) and veggies for snacking. He had a cooler for lean meats and cheese sticks. He will be back this thursday.. I am guessing he did well.. I will let you know.

Set aside a couple days to eat whatever you want, don't over eat, have a serving or so, but have fun and enjoy your life! After all, what are we doing this for? So that overall we can have better life, nothing to be derailed there. If you remember that when you get back, if you gained some weight don't be depressed, remember the fun you had and get back to it! Anyway, that's how I do it. I hope this helped.

Are you car camping, or hiking camping? If you're hiking camping -- don't worry about the food you'll eat. You will need the calories and I've never seen hikers ever pack too much to eat.
If you are car camping offer to buy the food and cook for the whole gang. That way you can be in control of the food that's purchased. That's what I do. And I don't skimp on the cost. I bring the receipt with me and tell everyone they owe me their share of the food. Plus, I've had people tell me that they love the food that I cooked better than what they normally eat -- hot dogs/hamburgers, etc.
Here's stuff that I take on my car camping trips:
Skewered shrimp or any kind of kebab
marinated chicken breast (add the marinade and then freeze so it stays fresher longer)
all kinds of delicious grilled veggies (sea salt & olive oil)
Chili
Grapes, cherries, grape tomatoes, strawberries
artichokes with a mustard dip
Low fat bratwurst (I like them better than hotdogs)
Grilled bananas (http://voices.yahoo.com/campfire-recipes-healthy-grilled-banana-honey-3322314.html?cat=22)

You have to really enjoy cooking to volunteer to be a vacationers camp cook or you can come home needing a vacation. Some of my most enjoyable camping (back packing for sure) is when we organized meals in advance and every one offered to cook a meal and we all knew the meals up front so we didn't have the same every night. We also would spend the day looking forward to the particular evening meal. People were on their own for breakfast. Great suggestions on foods to take.

ECO Atkins for a skinny vegetarian with a belly
This would be a good question for the nutritionist over on the atkins.com boards. Colette Heimowitz is her name. Post your question with her name in the title and she will respond.
